Private AI is resurfacing an older question: how can we coordinate without over-sharing? It's not only about keeping data out of hyperscaler clouds. It's about making more possible between humans + agents + institutions without requiring them to pool info in the first place.
Where are the AI privacy advocates? Do they even exist, beyond @ErikVoorhees ? Open, private AI is needed when handling sensitive health records, confidential corporate records, patents and trade secrets, and a host of other things we don't want to leak to big hyperscaler clouds.

The content is a bit too deep for me. It’s a little difficult to understand, haha.

fair! maybe this can help: imagine hospitals using AI to study a disease together, but none can share their patients' records (due to regulations/privacy). the idea here is to let AI work across that sensitive data and produce shared findings without pooling the records or exposing them to one another.

Private coordination > just private data.

private ai relies on secure multi party computation and homomorphic encryption, letting each party run the model locally while only exchanging encrypted aggregates, so no raw data ever leaves its source

I don’t think a prompt like “just encrypt the data you’ll be trained on” is enough here 🥲

Private AI gets much more interesting when coordination doesn’t require everyone to pool their data first.

that’s the key idea imo coordination gets way more interesting when people can work together without handing over all their private data.

The hard part isn’t private inference. It’s multi-party work where nobody dumps their context into a shared pile first.

humans, agent and institutions need data to work with, maybe definition of oversharing matters

yeah. not just keeping it off the clouds — coordinating without pooling it first.
