A key point that pro-Ukraine pundits and our European "allies" are missing is that the relationship between Ukraine and the American Right is incredibly fraught for a slew of reasons. Zelensky is the same guy who was President in 2020 for the "perfect phone call" that Democrats used for a frivolous, partisan impeachment.
The subject of that phone call was potential violations of US law by Joe Biden in Ukraine. Biden, of course, twiddled his thumbs while his crackhead son took a seat on the board of Burisma, a Ukrainian oil and gas company, that paid him $50,000 a month to do next to no work. Biden also bragged about using his position as the point person on Ukraine in the Obama administration to force the government of Ukraine to fire a prosecutor that was investigating Burisma.
And, of course, we know that the Biden family business was influence peddling - not just in Ukraine, but with China as well. There's a reason Biden pardoned his entire family on the way out the door.
And, of course, how can one forget Zelensky deciding, inexplicably, to campaign with prominent Democrats in the run-up to the 2024 election in Pennsylvania. ANY foreign policy advisor worth their salt would have told Zelensky the risks of taking sides in our domestic political disputes.
So you'll forgive Republicans if we are quite tired of subsidizing Zelensky and his government - a government that has functioned as a source of kickbacks and influence-peddling business for prominent Democrat politicians up to and including the previous President. We aren't children, of course, and Trump demonstrated that we are willing to continue supporting Ukraine - if they are willing to sign contracts that give America tangible, concrete financial interests in the country, and if they are willing to sit down and negotiate peace and avert WWIII.
What we are not willing to do is be insulted by this man and his government. We are tired of being taken for granted, ESPECIALLY after the endless shenanigans coming from that government to undermine Republicans and subsidize Democrat grandees. If you show up to the White House in a sweatsuit, call the Vice President by his first name, and instigate an argument with the administration with the cameras rolling after we just agreed to graciously continue supporting your war, you shouldn't expect anything other than to be shown the door.
