Many among my colleagues at IIT Bombay are terrified about the current situation and thus want protocols for interacting with students. The problem is a problem of trust deficit (between students and instructors) cannot be solved by bringing in more rules. This is how great institutions degrade with time: they bring in more rules when something does not work, and with time an overload of rules drags the system to a halt. The root cause of the problem is politics entering IIT campuses. Time for either biting the bullet or watching quietly a great system falling apart.
