thanks for the long and detailed reply. I'll think about it more to give it the time it deserves. I think you're responding a bit more to David than to me, but that's OK. I don't think crapping out code is the endgame as I think my other tweets reveal.
I think a big part of the answer to some of your questions is going to be "what OSS communities will actually embrace and allow these kinds of drastic changes to be made?" people change slower than software.

The answer to "what does this enable?" is ReActionView v0.6, which introduces LiveView-like, fine-grained reactivity for Rails.
You declare state in your view like strict locals, read it in plain Ruby, and write it from HTML attributes. Updates happen at the slot level, so only the changed values are updated. No JavaScript framework and no new file format needed.

Did a half marathon today. I am very sore but it was a beautiful day for a run in Albuquerque and I am pretty happy with the pace.

This is kind of insane...but today I crossed the 140-hour mark in preparations for my Rails World talk, Practical Hotwire. I was pushing the bar for myself, but it just got out of control. (For comparison, I logged ~300 hours for organizing Blue Ridge Ruby earlier this year.)

A fresh 'rails new' app pushed to GitHub is predominantly HTML 🤯
It's HTML - because of a few auto generated HTML pages (like error pages). Ruby is so efficient that a few pages of static HTML overweigh ALL Rails new boilerplate. Proof: github.com/irinanazarova/rai…
Because @github's language detector, Linguist, picks the primary language by byte count, a new Rails 8 application is classified as an HTML repository until its author has written roughly 13 KB of Ruby.

Forgot to mention this run was saved by @AppSignal. They didn't alert me of any errors during my run but they did fuel me with conference swag.
