You can technically own it while someone else holds the off switch. That's why Kate points people to @tryavvio. Freedom money was supposed to fix this.

It’s sad watching great fintechs like @Wise @Revolut that were built to disrupt banks slowly become the very thing they set out to destroy.
Also one of reasons, I’m very bullish on all the new era of fintechs like @altitude @Onesafeio and obviously @tryavvio
So i DMed @Wise as they requested, and then they asked me to eliminate my post.
I’ve also started researching about other people that have been in the same situation as me, where the “bank” refuses to open an account just because an affiliation with Bitcoin. The stories are hundreds.
May this be a reminder why the current banking system is failing us. Its all about discrimination. Dont wait until it happens to you to find an alternative.

Our founders have been bitcoiners for 8+ years. In that time we've watched people get debanked for donations, protests, political opinions, or just touching crypto. It always comes down to the same thing: if someone else holds your money, they decide whether you keep it.
That's why we built Avvio self custodial from day one. We never hold your funds. Doesn't matter if we're at 1000 users or 10 million, freezing your money isn't something we're able to do.
You literally closed by account without reason and have kept nearly £12,000 you have not returned.
You said it was because of Bitcoin, but I never used @wise to buy Bitcoin. It turned out it was because a Bitcoin company paid an invoice.
You froze my account, froze my funds and have not returned a VAT payment that was sent to you.
