The Birim River, which provides a freshwater source for residents of Akyem Apapam and its environs, is now a dense mud pool with barely any surface water. Officials of the Ghana Water Company say turbidity levels have reached as high as 75,000 MTU, further delaying any chance of restarting the plant. With the situation worsening, the leadership of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) says it is working to have the Kyebi Water Treatment Plant resume operations. There is more in this report. #3NewsGH #TV3GH

75,000 MTU turbidity. The same Birim our grandparents drank from is now a mud pool because of galamsey. Short-term gold money destroying long-term water. 😢🇬🇭

The chiefs, MMDCEs, Police Commanders and residents look on for these illegal miners to enter the forest and destroy the river. And now calling on government to come and help. No more values and love for country. That is what we have become as a society

Prez @JDMahama don't drink from this river so he doesn't care. He goes to the UN and give speeches as if he is Kwame Nkrumah but at his own background people cannot afford water. He cannot stop galamsey because his people are involved. This is hypocrisy. Fix your country first.
