Copper is just respecting the same trendlines its been respecting for a year. I don't think it can move much until the US-China meeting is over. Fear of tarrif removals weigh too heavily on it.

after working in several metals/mining focused funds I can tell you there is a disproportionate reliance on technical patterns among traders (which also creates some reinforcement to the patterns themselves). I am NOT a chartist for any commodities except copper/aly

I'd love for that to be the case; I'm bullish copper (5% of portfolio). That said, 4 things concern me. 1 - Black is a 30 year channel that it hasn't left in 12. 2 - Getting overbought. 3 - Momentum failing. 4 - Rising wedges tend to break down, not up.
