During #IAEAGC, the #Uzbekistan’s 🇺🇿 delegation, led by Azim Akhmedkhodjayev, Director @uzatomagency, met with DDGNS Karine Herviou to discuss the progress of the country’s #NPP project, including nuclear security, regulatory capacity building, and fuel supply. The IAEA reaffirmed its support for Uzbekistan as an embarking country through tailored capacity-building and knowledge-sharing initiatives. Discussions highlighted the value of the Incident Reporting System for Nuclear Power Plants (IRS) and the Agency’s nuclear safety roadmap, which provides peer reviews and training at every stage of programme development. Long-standing cooperation under the #CGULS project and IAEA support on waste management and environmental remediation were also addressed.

Good to meet @uzatomagency Director Azim Akhmedkhadjaev at #IAEAGC and exchange on our cooperation across nuclear infrastructure as Uzbekistan develops its nuclear power programme, combining large reactors and SMRs; good to be updated on progress since my recent visit to Jizzakh for the first concrete pouring of the 🇺🇿’s first SMR project. We also looked at our joint work on cancer care through #RaysOfHope and upcoming #Atoms4Food mission on food & agriculture. Uzbekistan can continue to count on the @IAEAorg.
