We made a 33-second Instagram Reel. Not a paid promo just appreciating the @samuelrizzondev project 828K views. 51K likes. 19,000+ new developers joined in 48 hours This is what we do at @varnan_labs. We don't make content. We make moments that move products.
Two weeks ago, Git City had 211 signups in a day. Yesterday: 7,415. Today: 11,703. 55x growth because one creator made a 33-second Instagram Reel about the project. @parasmadan9 from @varnan_labs posted a video showing how every GitHub developer gets their own 3D skyscraper in Git City. No paid promo, no deal. He just found it, loved it, and shared it. 828K views. 51K likes. 97K interactions. 19,000+ new developers joined in 48 hours. Paras, Varnan: you changed the trajectory of this project overnight. Thank you.

This is because of the following reasons: 1. Founder has not built his distribution around the problem he is building. 2. He has not gained trust from the people who who are following him. 3. He has not built his product in public. 4. People want to pay only when they know the founder cares about the problem he is solving.
DISTRIBUTION IS BRUTAL Founders build for months. Post about what they made. No customers. They quit.

The team just gets it because they lived it. @efratRapoport wasn't an outside consultant. She was inside Salesforce. She knows where the money gets stuck. Knows which deployments actually fail. Knows what a CIO actually cares about.

Rapoport's core insight cuts through all the noise: "AI paradoxically increases demand for professional services. The industry's solution is just hire more people." Which is wild when you think about it. We got smarter models. But we're solving problems the same way we did in 2015.

Why it got funded fast: Marc Benioff led the round. But Michael Dell, Aaron Levie, George Kurtz, Diane Greene are in it too. These aren't passive checks. These are CEOs who run the exact companies that need this solved. They're solving their own problem.

The hardest part of marketing is Sales. You can spend millions on ads and influencer marketing but if you are not able to sell to your customers the solution your startup is trying to solve, you fail.
The hardest part of marketing is telling the truth in just a few words

Launch videos are important but they are just going to create the initial interest, you need more to get real customers. - You need structured plan to define your cohort -Identify their problems -Solve them and then subtly add how your product helps solve that problem.

How varnan found it? Comnyang surfaced during Varnan's product research. @shubhraaanshu , who runs distribution at Varnan, flagged it for a deeper look. He wasn't chasing a good product. He was looking for one specific trait: something that reads in two seconds flat, sound off, no context. "Comnyang was exactly that, a desktop cat you understand the second you see it."

How Varnan helped: One 25-30 second Reel, posted to @ParasMadan9's channel with 220K + followers. The Reel's order: 1. plain language hook , 2. what it is , 3. the cat working on screen. There was no voiceover selling it in the middle. It was just the cat, doing its job. People stop scrolling for a moving thing, not a pitch. Simon posted how this helped shoot up the sales.

Hard Disagree. Most products have complex flows that users cant navigate themselves. Also, sometimes the user problems are very specific that the team can demo and configure.
hot take: if your product needs a demo, it's already too complex.

We had hosted @mrsnhl and he had some stellar insights on GTM and how to get your first few customers. Congratulations to team @OverlayyAI
Update: Overlayy is now a part of Monaco 🚀 Elated to officially announce that @MonacoGTM has acquired @OverlayyAI, and our entire team is joining them In early 2024, @AnmolChaman and I started Overlayy with a belief that AI would fundamentally change how sales teams work. Over the last two years, we rebuilt systems, workflows, and processes from first principles to make sales reps' lives easier At Monaco, that thesis becomes part of a much bigger vision Monaco is building the first AI-native revenue platform - replacing the fragmented stack of CRM + point solutions with one system that can understand what is happening across your entire go-to-market motion and actually act on it Everything we learned building Overlayy now gets to operate at a completely different scale Huge thanks to @samdblond, @malay_desai, and especially @abishekv for the conversations, conviction, and ambition that brought us together. We couldn't be more excited to build alongside them and the exceptional team at Monaco Extremely thankful to our team, customers, investors, advisors, and everyone who helped us along the way Read more at: overlayy.com/acquisition-pr @msuraj025 @Panthini_7 @thepurpledoe @madmax_anushank @srijanshetty @vaibhavbetter @amitp42 @abhinavjain @AR_Bits @shivadhawan119 @shubg @pratyush_r8 @kshitijjaggi @GauravPiyush2 @ArkidMitra @mukundjha @madhavjha @abhaysinghal @gokulr @thechangj @deepanshu_edu

There is a shift the way startups are getting funded and @ycombinator has signaled it well. Two years ago, VCs wrote checks to "AI tool" companies. Now they write checks to the infrastructure those tools depend on. Scale AI raised Series B at $2.3B. Not because they're a better ChatGPT. Because every enterprise AI system worth using runs on their data infrastructure. You build on it or you stop building.

Scale AI didn't just build a data pipeline. They went to Stripe, talked to the people stuck doing manual data work, and built the thing those people couldn't live without. When infrastructure solves a pain so specific that it becomes the backbone of how your industry works, distribution isn't a problem.

Sequoia, Benchmark, a16z all pivoted capital toward vertical infrastructure after Scale AI's returns proved it works. Series B infrastructure companies are raising bigger checks than Series B SaaS companies now. The market repriced who matters.
