There’s a part I need to replace in a fridge that’s 15 years old and that part no longer exists. So I’m now contemplating going to an electronics store, buying some capacitors, a soldering kit, and tapping into my soldering skills from 20 years ago.

Back in 2022, I remember when David first announced KubeHuddle. I figured it why not drop a CFP submission and hope for the best. I managed to combine that trip with a trip to DevOpsDays London, first, then take a train up to Edinburgh. For its first time, it was a fantastic intimate community event. A number of us even tried to do a Twitter space live (which was hugely chaotic and fun) A month after the event, I pinged David and ask him what it would take to replicate this in Toronto. With his guidance and support, we kicked off KubeHuddle in Toronto in 2023, followed by another in 2024. It’s an entirely different experience of being a founder and finding/growing/scaling a community. And doesn’t even come close to being a failed solo founder. Thanks for all you’ve done for us, David.

Complacency is the enemy of forward progress and success

I’m gonna be honest, a lot of you are not where you want to be in your career, and it’s bleeding into other areas of your life because you’re bullshitting. Don’t worry. I used to be a bullshitter too. I knew I was/am a force to be reckoned with. Other people knew it too. They could feel it before I even told them what I did. But I was scared to fully acknowledge it because I knew what came with it. Responsibility. Action. Visibility. Triggering people who don’t know what to do with their own feelings about your ambition, confidence, talent, or presence. So I downplayed myself. And unsurprisingly, that led to a downplayed salary, downplayed recognition, downplayed opportunities, downplayed lifestyle, downplayed relationships. Mediocre as hell. And that was simply not my station in life. I’m meant for billions. I’m meant for opulence. I’m meant for once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, beautiful experiences, aligned work, and a life that actually reflects the level I know I can operate at. So I stopped negotiating against myself. I stopped hedging bets. And I haven’t looked back. Now aligned opportunities come to me easily. Industry pioneers meet me with admiration and curiosity. I help shape technology strategy inside companies people rely on every day. I travel well. I work on things that matter. My family benefits greatly from the life I’ve built. That started when I got tired of bullshitting myself about what I wanted and what I was capable of.
