Přesně před 49 lety, 10. září 1977, došlo ve Francii 🇫🇷 k historicky poslední popravě gilotinou. Takto sťat byl vrah mladé dívky, který byl původem z Tuniska. Ač působí gilotina jako popravčí nástroj z hluboké minulosti, ještě ve 20. století se používala i u nás. Bylo to však za druhé světové války.
Gilotina (z francouzského guillotine) je popravčí stroj, využívaný nejvíce v době Velké francouzské revoluce. Hlavu odsouzence stíná železná sekera s šikmým ostřím. Hmotnost sekery disponující zhruba 70kilogramovým závažím zajišťovala velkou razanci dopadu. Pro svoji rychlost a spolehlivost se považovala za mnohem humánnější způsob než poprava mečem.
Jméno dostala podle svého propagátora, francouzského lékaře Josepha Ignace Guillotina (1738–1814). Není však jejím přímým vynálezcem, popravčí stroje pracující na podobném principu se užívaly v Německu, Británii a Itálii již před rokem 1300.
