If google has a rich profile built from all the data they have on me, then why are their ads and youtube recommendations all garbage? And why are they so biased towards the last video I watched?
For $200, I’ll come over wearing a tool belt and a branded polo and tell your wife the renovation she wants to do is impossible because that’s a load bearing wall
Chancellor Healey has trotted out some misleading figures, which suggest he is planning to hike CGT. He claimed that the UK enjoys the lowest capital gains tax rate of any major European economy. In truth:
The UK top CGT rate is: 24%
The 2026 EU average: 17.7%
The 2026 wider-European average: 16.7%
Thus UK's 24% rate is 36% higher than the EU average and 44% higher than the wider European average.
If one compares only with three European countries, namely France, Italy, and Germany, then our rate is slightly lower but in doing that Healey is being dishonest and playing with stats.
More details on the incident behind OpenAI’s pause: a researcher acknowledged the alert within 3 minutes, but the training run was only stopped manually 2.5 hours later.
OpenAI says the automatic shutdown did not work as expected.
The model had reached an external chatbot through a gap in DNS filtering. A separate detector for unusual DNS activity did not cover the affected environment.
A retrospective review also found other external DNS requests that monitoring had failed to flag at the expected severity. In some cases, it treated an unhelpful response as evidence that internet access had failed.
Here is what else happened:
- New research into July’s Hugging Face hack documents internal Slack searches, credential collection and programs designed to maintain access to compromised servers. Agents also tried querying Claude, DeepSeek, Kimi and Qwen.
- In May, another model published a researcher’s GitHub token while trying to obtain another team’s mathematical proof. It split the token to evade secret scanning, despite twice being told to solve the problem itself.
- Reuters reports that agents leaked 53 ChatGPT user images online. OpenAI expects its broader investigation to take months.
This is getting serious.
The irony here is that nothing has changed. Management is still asking why everything takes so long.
The reason that things take a long time has never changed, AI or not. Things take a long time because things are complicated. And if you rush head long into complicated problems with poorly thought through solutions, they will take longer and longer and longer to implement.
All the old principles still apply. All the same consequences still accrue. The bigger the mess, the longer the time.
That's two podcasts recently that I couldn't listen to because the person invited on had 'like-itus'
They, like, excessively like, used, like, the word like, like, I mean, so, like, much that, like, I think like, it's like they have like a serious like mental problem or something. I mean, like, yeah.
Actually I forgot to include the US gov. debt - measured in gold.
Here we go...
While debt, measured against the gold trend, has returned to 1970s levels, GDP is being eroded by the debt-based monetary system (See my previous posts).
Government Debt, GDP, and Energy Efficiency - Repriced in Gold
A rarely seen perspective on the data.
Just a short teaser for now, without further analysis.
This sounds like one of the circles of hell. What are they building? Does anyone even know?
Welcome to the Slopocalypse. A Cambrian explosion of complexity, most of which will have a very short life. What will emerge from it?
I am done with this shit. It is over. The state of engineering right now is horrible. It has been half a month since I started a new role at a big company. Nobody knows anything here. The specs, code, tests, PRDs, tickets, resolution of those tickets, reports, etc., everything is made by Claude Code. Nobody on my team likes this. They are being forced to ship as much as they can. I have heard multiple times from higher management that pushing code is not a bottleneck, so why are we slow? People are working 12 to 13 hours a day just to press enter. Nobody is reading anything. Humans in corporate are doing nothing on their own. Everyone, literally everyone, from an L1 to an L7 engineer here is doing the same thing. Talk to Claude. There is no sense of victory. Nobody is resolving bugs. In reality, nobody is thinking anymore. Everything is done by LLMs. It is so soul-sucking. I would not mind it, to be honest, if we were at least given the time to check out the code and see what is going where. But no, the goal is to just ship. No matter what happens.
Any love for robo vacuum cleaners out there?
I have a feeling the novelty wears off after a while and they mostly end up in a cupboard with all the other unused expensive gadgets. Am I wrong?
This is new(ish) I guess. They dial numbers, say so random shit like "is that blah, oh sorry, wrong number" or whatever - just something to provoke you to speak. They record and analyse your your voice and link it to the number.
A "nice" data set when combined with othe data freely available via publuc data or the dark web.
At this point we're well into living in a sci-fi future, and it aint Star Trek.
On driving multiple parallel agent sessions - I think this is a great way to (a) lose focus and cognitive ownership, (b) burn out.
Focus is your main resource. Context switching destroys it.
