Dream job. 👇
I'm hiring a former founder for a very important role here at RMFG Head of Factory Software. In person at our factory in Fort Worth, TX. This is an individual contributor role and you will be spending the vast majority of your time building software, not managing others. What are we doing? We're building the fastest contract manufacturer for robotics and advanced hardware companies. We're getting there by launching multiple online-first manufacturing capabilities and letting customers combine those into much more valuable assemblies, eventually full robots. We have a crazy roadmap and we've accomplished a ton with an insanely small non-production team (Me, one mech engineer, one former hardware founder leading growth, and one customer support person). It's very important to me that we keep this lean / scrappy DNA as we scale. Some reasons why you would want to work with us - We're growing incredibly fast. Revenue up ~10x since start of year. All important charts going up and to the right at a compounding m/m rate - We're growing (physically) incredibly fast. More than doubled factory floor space from 17k to 40k sq ft. This time last year we were in 4.5k sq ft. - We have cool customers. People putting stuff into outer space, nuclear technology, countless robot companies, guys making great money selling weird niche components that we make, public companies, and everything in between. - Your work will be immediately impactful and important. There will be days where you will push code changes that you physically can see the effects propagated to the floor quickly. Some days I know that I just made a multi-million dollar commit, seeing how much money it saves us on a process, or what rework it prevents, etc. - Your work will help make the American dream possible for hundreds of factory workers here at RMFG. Today we have ~20 production staff, and multiple are starting families and buying homes because of the work we provide. - Meaningful amounts of equity - We are a venture-backed hardware startup that is making more money than it burns (highly unusual) - A ton of incredibly smart people have backed us. (YC, Patrick Collison, Kyle Vogt, etc). - You will work on hard real world engineering challenges What I'm looking for - evidence of extraordinary software ability - someone who has touched grass - relentless, killer, ambitious founder mindset send me an email w/ evidence of your skills kenneth at domain name

Required reading. Also, a good steelman for the customer, if you need faster feedback loop, is your support team.
After 7+ years of conducting user research, one of the most useful questions I can ask an expert during usability testing isn't: "What information do you need on this screen?" It's trying to piece out: What did they notice that I, or my team, didn't? Because that's usually where the product starts getting interesting. The oncologist sees something in a patient history that I wouldn't think to connect. The fraud analyst notices a combination of signals that individually look harmless. The security team knows which anomaly is noise and which one means stop everything. The supply chain operator sees one number change and already knows what might happen three steps later. Years of working in a domain creates this almost compressed way of seeing. You don't read everything equally. You pattern-match. You filter. You know what deserves attention. You know what can wait. And sometimes you know something is wrong before you can neatly explain why. A big part of my job is learning that language. Not enough to pretend I'm the expert. Enough to design a product that doesn't get in their way.

Required reading. Even if you're not entering design.
All young people entering design would do well to read the essay "250 things an architect should know" and consider why it includes what it includes (very little of which has to do with extracting the maximum value out of constructing a building) readingdesign.org/250-things

For all the brand designers: good book/ article/course recs on how to create a identity without starting w a bunch of moods? And also maybe how to use moods as a form of art/vibe direction rather than direct references (I feel if i use direct reference moods i just copy whatever i see, not build a standout identity)

I yearn to have a warehouse where I make physical things all day.
Bambu Lab R1, the CO₂ laser built with the same motion control as our printers. Every cut lands where it should. The specs you've been asked about: • 55W CO₂ Laser - cuts up to 20mm single-pass cutting • 600 × 300 mm bed, 3m throughput with conveyor • 1000 mm/s max speed without losing detail • Auto laser alignment, first for a CO₂ laser cutter • Cameras, lasers and encoders work as one, within 0.2mm positioning accuracy Big job. Light work. Explore R1 share.bambulab.com/4x1dnCq

every git branch can now get its own isolated worker environment this is such a huge unlock, really proud of the team and all the work that went into this!
Today we’re launching Worker Previews. Each Git branch gets a production-like place to run, with its own code, configuration, URL, observability, and state. cfl.re/4hgSuxf

I am losing roughly $800 a month by working on MSW full-time while it's one of the most used projects in the ecosystem. Please, if MSW provides you any value, consider becoming a sponsor. I mean it when I say every contribution counts. Thank you ❤️ github.com/sponsors/mswjs

I'm obsessed with all of the little AI workflows that designers are experimenting with so Thursday is show&tell on Dive Radio if you’ve got a cool little workflow (no matter how small) and you’d like to show it off... DM me a 2-4 min video and @designertom and I will feature it on Thursday ✌️

This Thursday on Dive Radio, @ridd_design and I are exploring different tool stacks and workflows being used by designers as daily drivers. If you’ve got a cool little workflow, small or large, and you’d like to show it off in a 3-4 minute Loom recording, send it to me via DM before Wednesday AM! We’d love to spotlight your submission and react to it!
