One of the strangest accounts Jacques Vallée ever pulled from pre-modern history dates to 1491.
Girolamo Cardano later preserved a story told by his father, Fazio Cardano, describing the appearance of seven human-looking beings dressed in extraordinary clothing.
They wore silken garments resembling Greek robes, shining shoes and brilliant breastplates.
When asked what they were, they allegedly answered that they were:
“men composed, as it were, of air.”
They claimed they were born and died just as humans do, but that their lifespans could extend to 300 years.
Even stranger, when Cardano asked why beings with their knowledge did not reveal hidden treasures to humanity, they supposedly told him they were forbidden by law from sharing certain information with us, under severe penalties.
The account is dated August 13, 1491.
Long before flying saucers. Extraterrestrials. Before anyone had the vocabulary we now use to describe non-human intelligence.
And yet there it is:
Human-looking visitors. Different composition. Extended lifespans.
And rules governing what they were permitted to tell us.
I find that last part especially interesting. #ufox #ufotwitter

They were some of the greatest intellects of their day. Certainly a credible account.
