Actor John C. McGinley proudly raised his son Max, who was born with Down syndrome in 1997, firing his agent who advised him to hide the diagnosis and instead making Max a visible, cherished part of his life and a catalyst for disability advocacy... A reporter once asked him if he ever wished his son were “normal.” His answer was simple: Max was normal. The problem wasn't his son's condition—it was society's narrow definition of what "normal" is supposed to look like. In 1997, actor John C. McGinley welcomed his son Max into the world. Shortly after Max was born with Down syndrome, John sat down with his talent agent to discuss his career. The agent offered a piece of advice meant to protect John’s Hollywood career. He suggested keeping the situation completely private, warning that studios might hesitate to hire him if he spoke out. John looked at him and said, "You're fired." Instead of hiding his family away, John chose complete openness. He took Max everywhere with him. They walked red carpets together, appeared on talk shows, visited movie sets, and attended public events side by side. At a time when individuals with developmental disabilities were often kept out of public view, John made sure his son was visible. He introduced Max to the world with total pride, deep love, and no apologies. What started as a father loving his child turned into decades of passionate advocacy. John became a leading voice for Down syndrome awareness. He used his public platform to advocate for inclusion, fighting for equal opportunities so people with disabilities could work, contribute, and live meaningful independent lives. During one public interview, a reporter asked John if he ever wished his son were normal. John did not hesitate. He replied that Max was normal, and that the question itself was what was flawed. His response challenged the idea that human value depends on fitting into standard social expectations. Years have passed since then, and Max has grown into an adult who works, participates in his community, and demonstrates what is possible when given a fair chance. John often reflects on how his son shaped his perspective, stating that Max never held him back for a single moment. Through Max, he learned valuable lessons about patience, love, acceptance, and commitment. When Max was born, the world suggested he should be tucked away out of sight. John spent decades making sure people saw him, heard him, and recognized his worth as a person. Some parents protect their children by shielding them from the world. Others protect them by teaching the world to make room for them. True inclusion begins when we stop seeing differences as limitations. Max didn’t need to change to belong. The world needed to change to include Max. Looking back on every red carpet, film set, and quiet moment at home, John knows one thing for certain: Max was never a challenge to be overcome, but a gift to be cherished. True love doesn't ask a child to fit the mold of the world; it reshapes the world so the child can shine exactly as they are. #drthehistories

“We, the Jews of Israel, have a great problem with progressive Jews abroad promoting immigration. And we should start calling them out before the anti-Semites do, because we have lost the left... but we are also losing the right.” — @GadiTaub1 at NatCon Jerusalem.

.@AlexMarlow: One third of women at Cornell say they've experienced sexual assault. If this is true, then why on earth would I send my daughters to Cornell? If it's not true and there's a 1 in 3 chance my sons will be falsely accused, why would I pay money to send them there?

What Brian and most people consider “Journalism” was just the winning emergent strategy in the media game before the internet. (Objectivity is a natural byproduct of supply side economies of scale in information distribution, subjectiviity is the byproduct for demand side economies of scale via misinformation/perspective based reality.) No one actually cared about the truth, it was simply a byproduct of the business model. We know that because the business model changed and so did reporting the truth. If the truth was important before it should be important now. It never was though and that should be thought provoking.
Real journalism is important. Sadly most traditional media companies aren’t doing much real journalism these days, and would be more accurately described as political propaganda companies, selling misinformation and anger to ignorant people. The cigarette companies of our day.

What once was the peak, is now just the beginning. Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren't rewriting history — we're equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for bold, quality storytelling. We chose this name for a few important reasons. First and foremost, as we bring Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what has made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or overshadow either one. Instead, we wanted a name that would give the combined company an identity of its own while allowing Paramount and Warner Bros. — and all our extraordinary brands — to remain in the spotlight. We have big goals for Skydance, and we intend to pursue them with passion, imagination and a willingness to take smart risks. At the same time, we will honor what makes Paramount and Warner Bros. special — giving both studios the opportunity to grow, tell more great stories and bring those stories to even broader audiences around the world, powered by the scale and capabilities of Skydance. I couldn’t be more excited about what we’re going to build together.

> “in a remotely just society a woman should be able to get blackout drunk and sleep naked in the street without any risk of sexual assult.” we agree on this but what we would have to do to accomplish it would make you very sad.
in a remotely just society a woman should be able to get blackout drunk and sleep naked in the street without any risk of sexual assult. the fact that "she made bad choices" isn't treated as an insanely evil statement is a sign of how sick we are

Incredible reporting from the NYT. The woman at Cornell did not consider herself a rape victim until she saw people making fun of her for being a slut. She went to her "big sister" in her sorority and confessed that she had been a slut. Then while texting one of the men she reassured him that she enjoyed the first part of it and nothing illegal had happened. Later, she texted him that she was traumatized. Not by the sex, but because everyone was laughing at her. One week after her "rape," she was mad that she got disinvited from a party at the frathouse of her "rapists"!!!!!!! Only a few days later, she decided that she was a "rape victim." Nobody would laugh at her anymore! She went from an object of ridicule and shame to a hero. Once again, we need to have a serious conversation about how women are being lied to. People do not respect sluts. Even at woke Ivy League universities. Human nature is what it is. The lesson is women should protect their reputations by not doing things like this.

The foreign born population is the highest it has ever been in the history of the country, both in total number and as share of the whole. Ever. Surpassing even the Ellis Island wave. We are in uncharted water. The last time we approached these levels, we stopped immigration cold for roughly 4 decades, and only by virtue of intense assimilation pressure––not to mention an existing dominant Anglo Protestant culture into which these new arrivals could be assimilated––plus the crucible of World War 2, did this eventually resolve itself. People who think our current circumstances can just be hand-waved away, or that anyone describing the trade-offs of mass immigration are moral degenerates and therefore beneath concern, are completely delusional. This is an issue that must be addressed head-on.
