That work was paused in early 2025 amid U.S. tariff threats, and in October 2025. Stellantis confirmed the model would instead be built in the U.S. as part of its $13 billion U.S. investment plan. Production in Illinois is expected to start around 2027. nytimes.com. The future of the Brampton plant itself remains unresolved. Stellantis has said it still wants to build vehicles there and is in talks with the Canadian government, but no replacement product has been announced. The federal government has accused the company of breaching earlier funding agreements and initiated legal action. As of 2026 there have also been reports of possible sale or alternative uses for the site.
