This policy brief explores how we can shift from fragmented finance toward coalition-based agrifood systems investments, building approaches that are coordinated, tailored to diverse realities, and accountable for impact. Did you know that while advanced digital tools like e-commerce, analytics, and integrated payment systems provide immense potential to boost Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), Uganda’s clean energy SMEs, especially those led by women and youth, rely on digital platforms only for basic functions like mobile money and informal social media outreach. However, most of it is discarded, contributing to pollution and lost value. If recovered, whey could contribute to food security, industrial applications, and circular economy objectives.  The hashtag#VALORISE project demonstrates that whey can be transformed into animal feed, functional foods, biotech products, and even biodegradable packaging. This study analyzed four circular business models adopted by Kenyan dairy processors: (i) ricotta cheese production, (ii) whey-based yogurt drinks, (iii) fruit-blended whey smoothies, and (iv) whey protein concentrate recovery, and revealed that only 0.45% of the 976,055 L of whey generated weekly is valorized. The study recommends: ➡️ Targeted grants, low interest loans, and tax breaks for small and medium processors investing in valorization equipment ➡️ Public–private partnerships to establish regional whey processing hubs, enabling joint investments in production. ➡️ Embedding circular economy indicators in licensing and compliance standards to encourage sustainable whey management. ➡️ Expand training for processor staff on circular technologies and strengthen university–industry partnerships for research and innovation. ➡️ Actively engage smallholder processors, women, and youth to ensure equitable distribution of benefits across new value chains. 📚Read more 👉 lnkd.in/dwJcUTjA @egertonunikenya, @roskildeuni | @BiovIntCIAT_eng | @DTUtweet | @ArlaIngredients | @SEIresearch | @SEI_Africa | @denmarkinkenya
