ALT Unify for City College Regarding “ ‘Fear and frustration stops now’: New SFUSD superintendent offers hope” (Bay Area, SFChronicle.com, Oct. 21): I’m heartened by the rare unity shown for San Francisco Unified School District students, families, teachers and staff in response to the chaotic school closure proposal. This commitment to the well-being of students and high-quality education stands in contrast to the lack of support for City College of San Francisco, a gem of that’s been besieged since 2012, having nothing to do with its long history of excellent education. Progressives of the City College Board of Trustees have been criticized for wanting to maintain the diversity of classes and accessibility that have been an integral part of the college for decades.
