Neria Leiter, the son of Israel’s Ambassador to the United States @YechielLeiter, was critically injured today in a terrorist car-ramming attack in the West Bank. The Leiter family has endured profound loss in recent years. Ambassador Leiter’s eldest son, Major Moshe Yedidya Leiter, was killed in combat in Gaza in November 2023. Combating antisemitism and Holocaust distortion, supporting vibrant and secure Jewish life, and strengthening democratic alliances were central to our conversation. AJC has been active in Central and Eastern Europe since 1989 and, for nearly a decade, has advanced this work through our Central Europe Institute in Warsaw. We remain committed to working with the Polish government to advance a secure Europe, support Israel, and strengthen Jewish life.

The Vatican released "A Journey of Hope," reaffirming its commitment to interreligious relations 60 years after "Nostra Aetate" transformed Catholic-Jewish relations. The document affirms that the Catholic Church’s “solidarity with the Jewish people also includes the shared struggle against antisemitism.” We commend Cardinal Kurt Koch for his moral clarity: “It is impossible to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and, at the same time, an antisemite.” AJC is grateful for six decades of progress and remains committed to strengthening Catholic-Jewish relations and confronting antisemitism together. vaticannews.va/en/vatican-ci…

On September 17, we remember the Soviet invasion of Poland in 1939. It is also a day to pay tribute to the hundreds of thousands of Poles deported to Siberia, most of whom never returned. This painful chapter in our history reminds us that peace and sovereignty can never be taken for granted. Especially today, remembering the past also means remaining vigilant, being aware of the threats we face, and standing together in solidarity against regimes that seek to undermine peace, freedom and the sovereignty of others.

The European Parliament has stripped Grzegorz Braun of his immunity - for the sixth time. This vile antisemite - a serial offender - was publicly denying that gas chambers existed at Auschwitz-Birkenau, dismissing the murder of over a million Jews as "fake" and grossly distorting the Holocaust. Holocaust denial isn't a "controversial opinion" - it's a crime in Poland and much of the EU. Braun has built a political career on it anyway. It's time he is finally held accountable.

Six years ago, history was made. The signing of the Abraham Accords marked a bold, visionary step toward a more peaceful and interconnected Middle East. Even in this difficult moment, we must not lose hope for the prospect of peace. The collaboration and partnership among 🇮🇱, 🇦🇪, 🇧🇭, 🇲🇦, and 🇺🇸 continues to strengthen not only the region, but the world. AJC has been proud to support the foundation and growth of these landmark agreements, building on decades of work to foster dialogue, trust, and people-to-people connections across borders. As we celebrate the anniversary of these historic agreements, we reaffirm our hope and determination for this alliance to continue to grow, deepen, and inspire peace across the region.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since the September 11 attacks. Everyone has their own story from that day, I’d like to share mine.

More than 5,000 leaders from entertainment, academia, government, business, religion, and civic life are speaking out against the accusation that Israel is committing genocide and warning of the dangerous consequences of this rhetoric for Jews around the world.

The open letter brings together prominent public figures and scholars who reject the misuse of the term and emphasize that legitimate debate over Israel’s conduct of the war must not be conflated with the charge of genocide.

Representation should be celebrated, not revoked due to anti-Israel hostility. @Adidas’ decision to apologize for a local Israeli campaign highlighting Shalev Biton, a former IDF soldier who lost his leg to a Hamas missile, is shameful. Featuring a disabled athlete to promote single-shoe purchases for amputees is a meaningful step for inclusion. Capitulating to anti-Israel boycott pressure undermines disability representation and sends a dangerous message that Israeli inclusion is conditional.

AJC is deeply concerned by today’s joint statement from 12 governments announcing plans to introduce or support restrictions on trade with Israeli settlements in the West Bank, as well as by the UK government’s decision to characterize the situation in the West Bank as “ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians. There is no question that violence by Israeli extremists in the West Bank must be condemned and that those responsible must be held accountable. AJC has spoken forcefully on this issue. But the path to a better future for Israelis and Palestinians runs through diplomacy, dialogue, and direct negotiations, not economic isolation. European governments should focus their efforts on strengthening the conditions for meaningful engagement and a secure and prosperous future for both Israelis and Palestinians. timesofisrael.com/liveblog_e…
