Africa has solutions. Our task is to share them, scale them and turn them into impact. This was my message at the APRM High-Level Dialogue on South-South and Triangular Cooperation, convened on the margins of #UNGA81 in New York. With just over four years to 2030, we must accelerate action. Agenda 2063 and the SDGs must be pursued as one, with African countries learning from one another and building partnerships that respond to our own priorities. We are already walking the talk, advancing AfCRA, strengthening governance support and expanding peer learning and knowledge-sharing across our Member States. Closing the dialogue, H.E. Navid Hanif, UN Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development, highlighted Africa’s strategic role in shaping UN policies and programmes. 11 days to go! Credit ratings have real implications for Africa’s access to finance. While other emerging regions average around BB, Africa averages between B- and B - a gap that can influence investor eligibility and increase financing costs. As the dialogue concluded in New York, one message stood out: South-South & Triangular Cooperation must move beyond individual initiatives and become part of how African countries plan, finance and implement development. From stronger national frameworks to youth-led innovation, African countries can deepen cooperation by sharing solutions, expertise and experience. As 2030 approaches, stronger African ownership and partnerships will be critical to accelerating the #SDGs and #Agenda2063.

Moving from dialogue to implementation, the technical sessions examined how South-South & Triangular Cooperation can be embedded in national development plans, policies and frameworks. Sierra Leone, Côte d’Ivoire and Algeria shared experiences on institutionalising SSTrC, while discussions with Burundi, UNDP Africa and UNOSSC highlighted the role of youth, innovation and cross-border cooperation in strengthening economic resilience. The message: SSTrC must be nationally owned, resourced and measurable to deliver impact.

This morning in New York, the APRM, in collaboration with Uganda, Sierra Leone and UN-OSAA, convened its annual dialogue with UN agencies and Member States under the theme: “Towards 2030 and Beyond: Unlocking the Power of Triangular and South-South Cooperation to Accelerate the SDGs and Agenda 2063.” Held at Uganda House, the dialogue brought together African ministers, policymakers, UN representatives and development partners to advance practical approaches to strengthening #SouthSouthCooperation across Africa.

On the margins of #UNGA81, I was pleased to return to the Forward Africa Leaders Symposium at the Harvard Club in New York, under the theme "Building the Next Frontier of Africa's Digital Economy." In my opening keynote, I underscored that Africa has already demonstrated its capacity to innovate at scale. In 2025 alone, USD 1.4 trillion moved through mobile money in Sub-Saharan Africa, accounting for two-thirds of global mobile-money transaction value. The next step is infrastructure. Reliable, affordable energy powers the networks and digital services a modern economy depends on. Affordable connectivity brings people and businesses online. Integrated markets let African innovation move across borders. This is why Africa's next digital frontier must be built at the intersection of infrastructure, energy, integration and innovation. Our task now: build on the frameworks already in place and accelerate implementation at scale —bringing governments, continental institutions, development finance, and private capital together to deliver real results for our people. I had the distinct pleasure of reconnecting with Ms. @ahunnaeziakonwa, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Special Adviser on Africa, on the margins of the 81st United Nations General Assembly High-Level Week. Our exchange reflected on a range of strategic priorities for Africa, including advancing the continent’s financial sovereignty through stronger and more credible credit-rating systems; amplifying Africa’s voice and agency in global decision-making, particularly on sustainable peace and development; and expanding innovative financing solutions and more equitable access to knowledge, technology and innovation. We also underscored the transformative potential of South-South and Triangular Cooperation in scaling impactful initiatives and accelerating the implementation of Agenda 2063 and the Sustainable Development Goals. Line up 20 financial instruments across Africa's capital market and only one carries a credit rating. Africa's market is valued at approximately US$ 4 trillion, yet less than 5% of its instruments by value are rated. For issuers without one, borrowing becomes harder and more expensive, and the pool of investors able to participate shrinks. AfCRA was established to close that gap. This is #AfCRA
