The session brought together national #DOH officials, representatives from regional Centers for Health Development (#CHD) and health systems experts to examine what the evidence tells us about the Philippine health system and what it means for the next generation of reforms. Authors noted that the 3rd Edition draws on more evidence than previous editions, while also highlighting areas where stronger data and research are still needed, particularly on quality, efficiency and equity. The @WorldBankGroup's 𝘼 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙩𝙝𝙮 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 report highlights that the nurse-to-doctor ratio in #PHC teams varies widely across East Asia and the Pacific, ranging from fewer than one nurse per doctor in some countries to more than six in others. In Indonesia and Thailand, for example, public PHC systems have higher nurse-to-doctor ratios than other countries in the region, suggesting greater reliance on mid-level health professionals. Investing in supervised task-shifting and task-sharing strategies are among the approaches that can help expand PHC cost-effectively.
