On this day in 1948, Satchel Paige made his first MLB start with the Cleveland Indians. He became the first Black pitcher in the American League. At 42 years old, Paige is the oldest rookie in MLB history.

The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame mourns the passing of 2015 Inductee Bobby Hunt. Hunt played quarterback and defensive back at Auburn University. He was drafted by the Dallas Texans in the 11th round of the 1962 AFL Draft.

The Alabama Sports Hall of Fame mourns the passing of 2025 Inductee Charlie "Butch" Moore. Moore was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers out of Minor High School in the fifth round of the 1971 MLB Draft. He made his debut with the Brewers on September 8, 1973.

We mourn the passing of 1980 Inductee Lee Roy Jordan. Jordan was the defensive leader of the University of Alabama's 1961 national championship football team. He was named an All-American in 1962. Jordan was selected sixth overall by the Dallas Cowboys in the 1963 NFL Draft.
