The future of #ArtificialIntelligence is not pre-determined. As a technology developed by human beings, its future depends on the choices we make. We therefore have the responsibility to guide, change and, when necessary, reject its applications. A reliable system that serves the human person is of greater value than one that is exceptionally powerful but whose consequences cannot be adequately foreseen or controlled.

Exactly as @BeaFihn puts it. See here for the latest (disappointing but unsurprising) US position on upcoming #CCW review conference on a potential lethal autonomous weapons treaty. It says (or rather hides behind language which implies but means) as much: docs.un.org/en/CCW/CONF.VII/…

Personally I am greatly looking forward to Pete’s impeachment for a series of unprevented and indeed actively encouraged war crimes and extrajudicial killings, as well as the unforgivable unlawful handling of national security. Good riddance. By @nickturse theintercept.com/2026/11/05/…

I admit that I completely broke down today. I cried uncontrollably. I couldn’t hold myself together after witnessing what I saw with my own eyes. Today, we went to film a journalistic report inside the displacement tents along the seashore. I swear, what we witnessed was beyond what any human being should have to endure. I saw men crying bitterly. Men I had never seen cry when they lost their children or when their homes were destroyed. Today, I saw them crying because they were powerless to do the simplest thing: protect their children from the water and the cold. We spoke to families who told us they had spent the entire night carrying their children in their arms after floodwater covered the floors of their tents and soaked their mattresses. They couldn’t find a single dry place to put their children. They couldn’t even give them a few hours of sleep. I saw children no older than five, without proper clothes to protect them from the cold, without heating, and without a dry place to sleep. Children shivering inside tents that cannot keep out the rain, protect them from the wind, or provide even the most basic sense of safety. What more must happen for this world to act? How much more suffering must people endure before someone remembers that they are human beings? I am sick of this world. I am sick of its hypocrisy and empty slogans. To hell with a world that talks endlessly about human rights while leaving children to drown inside their tents. To hell with everyone who has witnessed this suffering and chosen silence, and to hell with the governments and institutions that have the power to act but continue to turn their backs on us.

I don’t know. It feels obscenely stupid to start posting videos of my loved ones in Gaza right now, as their tents flood with rainwater in the middle of the night, as they sleep in damp clothes on soaked mattresses, and to think for a f*cking second that these images might move someone to save their babies, to protect what little dignity they have left. As if this time could be any different from last year, or the year before that, or the year before that. As if people around the world, especially those with the power to do something, might suddenly be moved by a family’s tent flooding with rainwater when the sight of hundreds of babies whose bodies were shredded by Israeli bombs was not enough to put an end to this. How many more times must we expose the suffering of the people we love, strip them of their privacy in their most vulnerable moments, in the desperate hope that someone, somewhere, might finally care enough to act?

An entirely predictable effort to further cut Iran from the world. This isnt about weapons. This is about strangling the Iranian ppl first by sea, then by air, now by land. “Ending” the Iran war without ending this economic brutality is a farce. Dont let the Dems fool u otherwise

HRANA reported a U.S.-Israeli airstrike on an eight-story residential building on Zarafshan Street on 16 March. May be the same strike.
Some scenes are GRAPHIC. The video published today by Iran’s Red Crescent Society shows the aftermath of a strike on Zarafshan Street in Tehran on 16 March, during US-Israeli attacks on the country. 35.760690, 51.353851 @GeoConfirmed

Like Russia, the US continues its efforts to kick talks in Geneva down the line (the CCW GGE process on LAWs has exceeded a decade) + will refuse a binding prohibition on lethal autonomous weapons - despite the will of other states: stopkillerrobots.org/skr-res… theguardian.com/world/2026/n…

The US and Russian governments are blocking it because they want to use AI weapons that can kill humans and they want no limitations on their ability to do that. Stopping a new treaty on autonomous weapons is the best way for Trump and Putin to be able to do this.

The Guardian reports that the US and Russia are looking to block the proposal to start negotiating a new treaty to prohibit and regulate autonomous weapons. They are not blocking this process because they have a better solution in mind.

I know one thing about people who support torture - they think they’re the ones who are going to be doing the torturing or having it done on their behalf. They never think they’re the ones who are going to be tortured.
Trump’s New Chief of Staff, Stephen Miller, gushing about how GREAT torture is. MAKE SURE EVERYONE SEES THIS.

Iran is distributing iodine pills to those living near nuclear facilities because of Trump’s threat of using a nuclear weapon against the country. Even the threat of a nuke is unlawful and immoral. At the very least, Dems should make clear Trump WILL be impeached for this
BREAKING: Iran has now begun distributing iodine tablets to residents living near nuclear facilities—including the heavily fortified Pickaxe Mountain complex—as Tehran prepares for the possibility of radioactive fallout from a U.S. strike, per The Times. An Iranian Health Ministry official confirmed the distribution, saying: "Yes, we are distributing iodine. During every war, we have tried to distribute it within a two-to-three-kilometre radius of nuclear facilities. Trump can no longer be trusted. He may go through with this crime." The tablets are being handed out alongside survival advice to communities near atomic sites, with particular attention to Pickaxe Mountain.
