‘Who was Carla Lockhart?’ “I know, Miss! She was the Protestant MP who quit her party ‘cause Protestant men couldn’t parade thru a Catholic area.” What a political legacy.
𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 Upper Bann MP @carlalockhart has quit the DUP - after 19 years as an elected representative. She’ll sit as an independent MP.

The DUP & Unionism generally indulged, elevated and amplified Jamie Bryson, and in return he's unleashed carnage and division. There hasn't been a recent crisis within Unionism he hasn't instigated or made worse. Until Unionism lances this boil, things will only get worse.

7 of Ulsters 9 counties are overwhelmingly Irish Republican. Why do we continue to accept the partition of Ulster and Ireland?

Indeed. The price of a separate state in the northern part of the island are a shorter life, longer waiting times for healthcare, more suicide (likely all related), lower educational attainment and lower social mobility. But I guess cheaper housing makes up for all?🤔

Respectfully Mario, that graphic is very misleading Ireland and Britain did not ‘unite’ in 1801. After yet another attempt at independence by Ireland in 1798, Britain sought to get rid of the Irish parliament once and for all and subsume Ireland. It bribed Irish politicians to vote their Parliament out of existence - forcing Ireland into an unwanted and undemocratic union. Irish Catholics, the vast majority, had highly limited voting rights and weren’t allowed to sit in Parliament. The parliament did not represent the people. The first time the Irish majority could vote, they voted for ‘Home Rule’ parties - reverting the enforced Union of 1801 tone-establish an Irish Parliament There has never been a voluntarily Union between Britain and Ireland. Irish identity long predates the concept, and had always had a majority wanting to remain independent Anyone who loves democracy should support the concept of restoring the whole of the island of Ireland to the Irish There were never meant to be fabricated national boundary lines on this island

It would not be wild to see a united Ireland, no. Historically, what’s wild is that Ireland was partitioned in the first place.
🇮🇪 Ireland's Taoiseach (PM) Micheál Martin is launching a new government body to research UNITY with Northern Ireland for the FIRST time. It will examine 3 scenarios: full 32-county unity, NI remaining in the UK, and a united Ireland with a devolved North under Dublin. Martin wants an evidence-based discussion, not partisan pushes that treat a border poll as easy and inevitable. He aims to include unionist voices. Cabinet proposals are expected before Christmas. Wouldn’t it be wild to see a united Ireland again? Source: Reuters / Writer: Jamie

I like Derry’s two names - Derry Co Derry.
There is no such thing as ‘County Derry.’ Barra is very confused. I understand that novices will make mistakes, but this is a very silly one for him to make.

Bailey, can you explain the eyeball on his forehead? Thanks 😉
I walked in Portadown last night for a number of reasons. I speak only for myself. 1) To stand with my brothers, and the sisters from the many women’s lodges who joined us. 2) To stand for the rule of law. The decision to submit an 11/1 and follow the rules, despite our disagreement, was the correct one. I commend the organisers for that decision. 3) To show that while unionism may argue and bicker, when it matters we will stand together in unity. I’ve never experienced anything like last night. Unbeknownst to me, I was walking beside my father’s cousin. My father is no longer with us, and realising I was on parade with my actual family brought very strong feelings. This is a tradition that runs through generations of families. When I hear Mary Lou McDonald allow our culture to be degraded to “orange bastards,” I truly despair. It is not without its problems. Nothing in this world is perfect, and there is hard work being done by good people. The abuse of our culture, a culture passed down through generations, has gone on for far too long. Dehumanise us all you want. We will not lose our humanity. I want to commend the chaplain for his prayer on the night. That is who we are, and we must never forget his words.
