Jackie Baillie on Andy Burnham’s pledge to make social care free at the point of use in England. Social care is devolved in Scotland - and it's time the SNP delivered. 👇

UK Labour is making sure defence investment creates jobs here in Scotland. John Healey’s announcement backs our shipyards and our skilled defence industry workers. The SNP should be doing the same.

Why does lying come so easy to you @MonicaLennon7
Labour MSP Monica Lennon, speaking on BBC Radio Scotland, claimed the 'fire & rehire' threat by Glasgow Council was "unprecedented". This was false and *should* have been challenged. Labour made the same threat in Birmingham last year & in Merthyr Tydfil in 2014. In the early 2010s multiple Labour run councils in England employed fire & rehire [then called dismissal & re-engagement]. These included Coventry and Cumbria. Other non-Labour councils to have employed fire & rehire include Devon County Council in March 2025 and Worcestershire County Council employed in 2024. BBC Scotland, in its eagerness to help Labour attack the SNP, invited a Labour politician onto a programme to comment on the Glasgow situation but failed to carry out *basic* research into Labour's own history at local authority level. What should have been an interview where a politician was challenged became a one-sided anti-SNP rant underpinned by misinformation with an interviewer who metaphorically nodded in agreement.

My first action as @ScottishLabour leader was writing to John Swinney offering to work together to get Scotland back on track to hit child targets that are written into law. We’ve got 3 years left. Let’s get to work.

Not one word of any of this was in the SNP election manifesto. @conor_matchett is right. Swinney is one con after another.
It's not been talked about much but I do think it is fundamentally dishonest of the SNP and John Swinney that none of this nor the health board reorginisation was detailed in the SNP's 2026 Holyrood election manifesto

I’m fed up listening to politicians, academics and commentators tell us how “heartbroken” they are about Scotland’s drug deaths. Because if you’re truly heartbroken, you don’t just talk about it - you act. The figures released today are not just statistics: they’re lives. They are families ripped apart. They are empty chairs at kitchen tables, unanswered phone calls, funerals, grief and trauma that never simply goes away. And as the son of addiction, I cannot put into words the anger I feel watching this happen year after year while governments debate, politicians make statements and commentators endlessly claw at the problem. What we haven’t seen is the urgency that this crisis demands. While they lecture us, communities like mine are being devastated. And let’s be absolutely clear about something: behind every single figure is a human being. That's a son or daughter, a mother or father, a brother or sister and a friend. Someone who was loved - and someone whose death leaves people behind who will carry that loss for the rest of their lives. So spare us the carefully crafted statements and the obligatory expressions of sorrow. Spare us another round of politicians telling us how “heartbroken” they are. If you are truly heartbroken, how about doing something about it. Declare a national emergency. Treat these deaths with the urgency they deserve. Because while politicians talk, commentators debate and academics produce yet another analysis of a crisis we already know is spiralling beyond our control, working-class people are paying with their lives. Enough is enough - it's time for action.

I've been raising the issue of violence in schools for years now, and the SNP are still failing to act. Every day, pupils, teachers, and school staff are going to school and facing violence and abuse from disruptive pupils. This cannot go on. It is time for concrete action, not warm words.

This is three quarters of the 'voluntary' Union. Let that sink in!
An historic moment as the leaders of Sinn Féin, the SNP and Plaid Cymru come together to stand up for the interests of our nations and their right to independence. For the first time in history, three nationalist and pro-independence First Ministers now hold office. Today is a powerful testament to the enormous change, hope and opportunity of the times we are living through.

Unlike John Swinney, I was in attendance on Saturday. Those working-class women protesting weren’t “far-right,” they’re just right and rather than listen he smears them. This chancer continues to demean his office - he is unfit to be First Minister.
