What happens when African innovators build AI around the realities of the continent? This month, we spotlight Kate Kallot (@KateKallot), Founder and CEO of Amini (@AminiTech), whose work sits at the intersection of AI, data and environmental intelligence. Through Amini (@AminiTech), Kate (@KateKallot) is combining satellite data, machine learning and digital infrastructure to address challenges across climate, agriculture and sustainability. Her journey reflects an important evolution in Africa's technology ecosystem. African innovators are moving beyond adapting global technologies to local markets. Increasingly, they are building new infrastructure, data systems and AI solutions around African realities. 🧵5/6 We’re already seeing what this can look like in practice. From environmental intelligence built using satellite and local data to sovereign AI deployments that help governments digitise, search and use their own institutional knowledge, the infrastructure layer matters.

🧵4/6 Our Founder & CEO @KateKallot also took the stage to share a belief at the heart of our work: Africa does not lack knowledge, data or talent. What is still missing in many places is the infrastructure needed to activate them at scale and on local terms.

🧵3/6 It means building across the full stack, from digitising overlooked records and creating trusted data foundations to local compute and applications that make that knowledge useful. The goal is to move from data that exists, but remains difficult to use, to intelligence that can serve institutions and communities.

🧵2/6 For us, sovereign AI starts with a fundamental question: How do countries turn their own data, knowledge and context into intelligence while retaining control over the infrastructure that makes it possible? That means thinking beyond AI models alone.
