It's pretty impressive how much ground Mayor Mamdani has been able to cover after only nine months in office on a wide range of basic quality-of-life issues in NYC: -- 229,000 pothole repairs (up 27% from last year) -- speedbump installations up 25% -- tree planting up 61% (55,000 total) -- bus lanes installation more than doubled (5.5 miles to 12 miles) -- residential curbside collection met its annual target for the first time in 21 years (with three months to spare) -- affordable housing completions up 20% -- financed 2,546 supportive housing units and 4,742 affordable homes for formerly homeless New Yorkers, the most in a fiscal year in NYC history -- job placements through the city's human resources agency are up 33% -- youth job placements through city admin up 26% -- wait times for primary care appointments down 31% for adults and 24% for children -- families receiving child welfare services up 16% -- rec center membership up 13% (total membership highest in 15 years) -- young adult attendance at rec centers up 50% -- murder rate is down 20% -- burglaries down 9%, robberies down 9%, auto thefts down 7% All in fewer than nine months. Some leaders need to hear this: If you say the mayor who lied about poison in NYC after 9/11 should attend the memorial ceremony, but the mayor who revealed those lies shouldn’t—you’re not supporting survivors, honoring victims, or being patriotic. You’re probably just a bigot.

I am appalled and aghast at the unfair and bigoted vitriol being directed at Mayor Mamdani around 9/11. He was one of a million kids in New York who spent that day terrified, and who carries that experience with him today. I know because I was with him, and we were terrified together. None of the attacks on the Mayor or others like Ramzi Kassem survive even the slightest scrutiny beyond dredging the bottom of the barrel of anti-Muslim slander. I disagree with the Mayor on many things, and have made those disagreements known publicly and privately. But there is absolutely no room for accusing a New Yorker who lived through those attacks of sympathy with the people who perpetrated them. End of story.

25 years ago, terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people, including 2,753 New Yorkers. As we remember that terrible day, let us also remember the first responders, office workers and strangers who ran toward danger to help each other. Let us remember the extraordinary compassion, resilience and bravery that carried our city through its darkest day. Today, New York remembers. We will Never Forget.

I spoke to my old friend Lindsey Graham this morning, the senior Senator from South Carolina. He’s still recovering in the hospital. The Iranian navy, which has been destroyed eight times, has apparently closed the Strait of Hormuz again, because the United States, for the seventh time, won the war that wasn’t a war, so now the United States has to open the Strait of Hormuz that was already open before the not-war began. The not-war began because Iran had uranium that was totally, completely, beautifully obliterated, so they can’t build the nuclear bomb they weren’t building, which is why the United States had to start the not-war it definitely didn’t start. Now the United States, which has nuclear weapons, is threatening to use nuclear weapons to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons, because nuclear weapons are far too dangerous for countries with nuclear weapons to allow other countries to have. If the United States saw the United States doing what the United States does in other countries, the United States would invade the United States to liberate the United States from the tyranny of the United States.

I just heard from a source very close to top of the White House that, following today’s shootdown of an F-15, an A-10, and the successful hits on multiple helicopters and other aircraft, the WH is choosing further escalation, including US troops on the ground. This would be madness. I truly hope that someone in the Pentagon or elsewhere can prevent this from happening. If anything was proven today, it’s that Iranian AD is still very capable and very intact. Any US ground operation will be heavily reliant on helicopters and other slow-moving airframes. Despite the assertions of both the Pentagon and POTUS, it is crystal clear that we have not reduced Iranian AD to the point where a ground operation is even a remotely wise decision. Let alone potentially inserting by air and then being exclusively reliant on an air corridor for things such as resupply and CASEVAC. History is replete with examples where this reliance has been disastrous. Further, the hard part would be after troops were on the objective. Our lack of manpower leaves little room for maneuver, and once static (which would be required), Americans will become a stationary target for the entire inventory of Iranian indirect fire capabilities on Iranian soil, and it is a recipe for failure. Simply put, this is not an existential war for the US's survival. It’s a war of choice that should never have happened in the first place, and POTUS should be finding a way out, rather than clumsily and recklessly sacrificing America’s finest.
