All the teachers I know agree. AI hampers learning for most children. Like mobile phones in the classroom they are counterproductive. I think long term a wise personal AI coach might be a wonderful thing but current AI is not that wise coach.

To be clear: I use AI very intensively. One of these teachers actually made his first carreer by developing (and branding) the first wifi chip. I just designed a course where we put AI front and center. I'm not unaware of AI.
But learning is not research. It's not about answers. It's about creating neural pathways in the brain.

A new study (Li et al., 2026) recommends giving chickens just 2 hours of darkness nightly to maximize the time they spend eating.
The study and photo are Chinese. But the idea is American: US chicken producers pioneered sleep restriction to keep their birds eating around the clock.
We know chickens have far better welfare with 7–8 hours of darkness to sleep. Their ancestors, the red junglefowl, naturally sleep 12 hours a night.
Today the US industry gives most birds just 4 hours of intermittent darkness. Will they now drop that to 2?
Don't count on them considering what the birds need.

Robots draw their first blood!
The FDA has authorized the first standalone robot that can draw blood: the Aletta system from @Vitestro. One phlebotomist can supervise up to three devices.
For now, it automates work inside healthcare, but easy to imagine future versions popping up in pharmacies or supermarkets, maybe next to the BP cuff.

This is a fascinating little tool!!! I was a boy in the Maghreb, 1856 BCE. Clicked “redraw his life” over and over and the number of lives in which I died in infancy is insane. We know the statistics, but playing this game really makes it land, how utterly improbable it is to simply be alive.
