I love how nobody in these comments wants to acknowledge how difficult the DA makes coalition politics. ActionSA has experienced this firsthand. The DA wants to call the shots, struggles to accommodate its coalition partners and expects everyone else to fall in line. We’ve seen similar tensions in Johannesburg and Tshwane. Even in the GNU, whenever things don’t go their way, they’re quick to threaten to walk away. You cannot expect other parties to constantly compromise while refusing to do the same yourself. Coalition government is about putting residents and service delivery first, not allowing one party to dictate terms to everyone else.
DA worked hard to appeal to the electorate, the electorate responded and we are here now. This is my preferences on coalitions:
Joburg: DA + ASA = Helen Zille
Tshwane: DA + ASA = Dokotela
Ekurhuleni: DA + ASA = Khathu
If both parties can swallow their pride, Gauteng will rise.
