Our next speaker reveal is Tom Boyd, who will be speaking on 'From Procedures to Pathways: Simulating the Full Patient Journey Abstract'. Through examples from humanitarian, military and conflict-affected environments, including faculty development initiatives, implementation of Simulation Training for Resource-Poor Extreme and Austere Medicine (STREAM), and lessons from the SimBegin faculty development programme, we will explore how simulation can be used to develop not only clinical capability, but also communication, leadership, decision-making and team performance. Healthcare professionals are often highly proficient in the technical skills required to manage critically ill and injured patients. Yet outcomes are frequently influenced by factors that sit beyond any individual procedure: behaviours, team dynamics, conflicting priorities, difficult personalities, handovers, escalation decisions and the wider systems within which care is delivered. This session asks a simple question: Are we spending too much time simulating the procedure and not enough time simulating the pathway? By zooming out from individual tasks to the complete patient journey, simulation offers an opportunity to better understand how people, teams and systems interact under pressure. Participants will explore practical examples of pathway-based simulation and consider how this approach can strengthen clinician confidence, support faculty development, and improve performance across complex healthcare environments. Dr Sen is a Trauma Lead for Critical Care, Clinical Lead for Ultrasound with both @YorkshireAirAmb and The Air Ambulance Service (TAAS), and an examiner for the Fellowship in Immediate Medical Care. A passionate advocate for advancing trauma care, he has published widely on trauma and pre-hospital medicine, contributed to national guidance on pre-hospital ultrasound, and teaches on a range of trauma and critical care courses. With extensive expertise in point-of-care ultrasound, Dr Sen holds an MSc in Medical Ultrasound and is accredited in echocardiography by the @BritishOf43095 (British Society of Echocardiography).
