War in #Yemen #SITREP | @PresidentRashad said Thursday that he believes government forces are moving from containing Houthi attacks toward "regaining the initiative and deterrence." During a meeting with UK @UKinYemen Ambassador @abda_sharif, Alimi argued that international support for the Yemeni government, armed forces and Popular Resistance offers a more sustainable means of confronting the Houthi threat. Alimi acknowledged that developments on the West Coast had been a difficult test for government forces, but said the subsequent fighting had created an opportunity to regroup and regain the initiative. He called for stronger enforcement of the international arms embargo and greater efforts against weapons-smuggling, financing and military-technology networks supporting the Houthis. Air operations are continuing elsewhere. Yemen’s armed forces announced strikes against Houthi personnel in Mocha and elsewhere in Taiz, describing the operations as part of an effort to disrupt Houthi movements and their ability to conduct further attacks. The main focus over the past 24 hours has shifted to southern Taiz and the mountainous approaches to the Taiz-Aden road, where Houthi forces launched coordinated attacks and infiltration attempts overnight. Government forces @Yem_army_media say they repelled the attacks and retained control of the Hayjat al-Abd route, a critical supply and civilian artery connecting Taiz with Lahj and Aden. According to Yemen’s Ministry of Defense @YemenMOD, the Houthi attacks began around 10:10 PM Wednesday and targeted positions around Wadi al-Maqatirah and Hayfan. Units from the Taiz Axis @axistaiz, Tur al-Bahah Axis and Southern Giants Brigades, supported by local Popular Resistance fighters, engaged the attacking forces. The military says the Houthi units were forced to withdraw after suffering personnel and equipment losses. The fighting briefly reached the vicinity of the Hayjat al-Abd road. Government military sources subsequently announced that Houthi pockets that had infiltrated toward the route were pushed back and the road was secured. The Tur al-Bahah Axis said Thursday that Hayjat al-Abd was "safe and fully open," with trucks and civilian vehicles moving normally. The Fourth Battalion of the Presidential Guard also released footage from positions overlooking the mountainous pass, showing its forces continuing to hold the high ground with support from the Tur al-Bahah Axis and Popular Resistance. Multiple videos recorded Thursday also showed civilian traffic using the route. Government forces reported additional fighting around Al-Ahkum and Hayfan. The military spokesman said forces had deployed extensively across the Hayfan front after repelling the overnight attacks. Warplanes reportedly conducted at least three strikes against Houthi positions and concentrations around Al-Akboush. Farther west, fighting continues around Al-Wazi’iyah. The National Resistance @NRFYemen said its drone unit carried out a series of strikes during the past 24 hours against Houthi personnel and vehicles opposite positions held by the Fifth Giants Division. It claimed direct hits and Houthi casualties. Government forces also reported shooting down a Houthi suicide UAV over Jabal Habashi, west of Taiz. The aircraft was described by military sources as belonging to the Houthi Samad series. Away from the immediate Taiz battlefield, Southern Giants forces @SouthArmed @alamalikah announced the discovery of what they described as an IED manufacturing facility in Bayhan, Shabwa. They reported arresting five alleged cell members and recovering 55 explosive devices containing more than 45 kilograms of explosive material.

Shouting into the camera, he directly addresses the Houthis, accusing them of bringing about the deaths of countless men while pointing to the graves around him. The cemetery, he says, is one of many that continue to fill with bodies from repeated wars.

Four separate videos from Thursday, September 24, reaffirm that the Taiz City-Aden route via Al-Turbah remains open to traffic.

BREAKING | The Saudi @modgovksa-led coalition intercepted six incoming ballistic missiles aimed at Yanbu and Taif. The coalition spokesman @CJFCSpox said the “escalation and violations by the terrorist Houthi militia will be dealt with firmly.”

The Fourth Battalion of the Yemeni Presidential Guard posted video showing its forces remain in control of positions overlooking the Hayjat al-Abd mountainous pass, with support from the Tur al-Bahah Axis and local Popular Resistance fighters. The strategic pass links Aden with Taiz. Houthi forces attempted to seize the overlooking positions overnight but failed to capture them.

The crew of the USS Abraham Lincoln touched American soil for the first time in nine months, when the strike group pulled into Apra Harbor, Guam, for a brief logistics stop and on-base liberty. The supercarrier, alongside guided-missile destroyer USS Frank E. Petersen Jr., arrived on September 19 and left the next day. Lincoln is 307 days into her deployment, 19 short of the record set earlier this year by the USS Gerald R. Ford, and is now just weeks away from San Diego. Slowly but surely, the Taiz-based Popular Resistance @YemenResistanc1, which played a key role in fighting the Houthis in 2014 and 2015, appears to be reemerging as an organized force on the battlefield. Videos released from the front show Popular Resistance fighters supporting Yemeni government forces around Jabal Qarfan, a strategic height overlooking Al-Wazi’iyah southwest of Taiz. Resistance claim their forces and the army secured the mountain and made additional gains around Al-Miyhal on the Al-Kadhah front and Jabal Qarfan on the Jardad front. Popular Resistance fighters also reportedly shot down a Houthi drone on the Al-Kadhah front. The renewed mobilization is also becoming increasingly visible among local communities. Thousands reportedly attended the funeral today of Omar Adel Abdulmalik al-Sanawi, a Popular Resistance fighter killed Monday while supporting government forces in Taiz. Resistance leaders say five of their fighters have been killed and 13 wounded during the latest fighting.
