We must abolish the lie that "Canada needs immigration for our economy".
In an economically successful country wages aren't stagnant, trained professionals would be able to find jobs, and young people would be able to buy houses.
Instead Big Business imports an underclass to improve their bottom lines.
Immigration makes our economy worse.
Mass immigration suppresses Canadian wages.
When the pandemic hit, borders were effectively closed, save for a few specific exceptions.
By December 2021, corporate Canada was complaining of staffing shortages. These pressures had forced companies to raise starting wages as they struggled to retain existing staff, let alone recruit new ones.
For a brief period, a tight labour market gave working Canadians real leverage.
Achieving this didn't take far-left ideology, radical policies, or aggressive minimum-wage hikes. It simply took restricting immigration to a trickle, which inadvertently gave ordinary working- and middle-class Canadians a fighting chance at a decent living.
Keep that in mind as Mark Carney muses about raising annual immigration levels to 500,000, all while countless young people struggle to find work.
