<rant> So apparently I annoyed someone a couple of weeks ago. I got an email announcing my permanent suspension from X due to "inauthentic behavior," whatever that is. I was able to log in to my account and request a review, explaining that the most "inauthentic behavior" I was aware of performing was to go on vacation. 3 days later my account was restored. It seems that upon investigation it was found that I had not seriously damaged the rules. Somebody complained, and I was suspended forever. No investigation, no verification, just a vague anonymous note in a complaint box. I understand that verifying a complaint requires human labor, which costs money. Even so, it seems to me that basic fairness would dictate that some sort of fact check would be indicated before permanently silencing someone on a social platform. Heck, a half trained AI could do a cursory verification of a complaint. It might be wrong, and need to be flagged for human attention, but I would think that most frivolous complaints could be identified pretty easily. Welp, I don't run the place, so I guess the people with money on the line will make the final rules. I just think they could do better. </rant>

The Department of Education must be closed NOW. It has utterly failed. Students now graduate from school with absolutely no idea how to actually think.

I just don't understand. As an engineer, I have to consider what happens as a result of my actions, what happens as a result of that, and so on. I have to know every detail of how a thing works. Progressives think, "I want that," but do not think of where that comes from, or what happens because they got that. Nothing beyond, "Give me that and the world will be perfect." How can an engineer or scientist be a progressive? It just doesn't make sense to me.

Far too many people need to hear this: Somebody letting you have the car keys does not necessarily mean you are able to drive.

Libertarians do not believe companies will "self-regulate out of the goodness of their hearts." That's a myth. Companies will do what they have to do to maintain market share and make a profit. This means they won't, as many poorly drawn memes suggest, deliberately poison their customers to save money. If they did that, their customers would die. What they will do is lobby the government and capture the regulators. That's why sugar is heavily tariffed and corn syrup is subsidized. That's why low fat diets were promoted by the government while sugar and twenty loaves of bread a day was deemed essential. That's why, when employees unite to negotiate for better wages or working conditions, companies have summoned the government to kill the strikers. Almost everything you hate about how corporations do business is a direct result of government action and regulatory capture. We also don't argue that things will be a perfect magical utopia if these regulations are removed. Perfect magical utopias don't exist. Not even if the government tries to regulate them into existence. We argue, instead, that eight billion people each making individual decisions about what they will buy and what they will sell , and the conditions under which they will do so, is better than a single top-down system imposed from above by bureaucrats who, inevitably, fall under the control of the biggest, wealthiest corporations. The role of government should be limited to protecting your rights to life, liberty, property, and pursuit of happiness - not restricting the choices you make that don't hurt other people.

I’m noticing a lot of foreigners who seem to not understand why we’d risk hundreds of lives, spend millions of dollars, and sacrifice several aircraft to rescue one guy. And the reason they don’t understand is also the reason people can’t be made American by a piece of paper.

You have an absolute and undeniable right to defend yourself by whatever means you deem necessary. Don't just believe me. Believe Rachel Maddow.
