I find this so utterly depressing. My Zionism is one celebrates Israel as a state that grants equality to all its citizens. Israel’s Arab-led parties should be viewed as partners towards national healing and regional peace, not disqualified on flimsy pretexts. The fact that, on that anniversary, a terrorist plot has been foiled which could once again have targeted Jews in Manchester makes this an incredibly concerning time for Jewish people in the UK. We are immensely grateful to Greater Manchester Police, the Metropolitan Police and the security services for their work in preventing another potential tragedy and for the extensive protection they continue to provide. We once again repeat that security can only ever deal with the symptoms. One year on from the murder of Melvin and Adrian, the Government must redouble its efforts to tackle the root causes of the hatred and extremism that are espoused in places of worship and other community spaces that continue to motivate people to target Jews. We cannot simply keep protecting our community from the next attack but must do much more to stop people being motivated to carry one out in the first place.”

CST has seen the news that the arrests of two men in Manchester on Sunday, shortly before the start of Yom Kippur, was allegedly related to what police believe was a plot to attack the Manchester Jewish community. This is utterly chilling, coming so close to the anniversary of the terrorist attack at Heaton Park Synagogue last year, and is another reminder of the serious terrorist threat facing Jewish communities in this current time. We have been in close communication with police in Manchester and around the country throughout Yom Kippur, as we are continuously as part of our security operation over the High Holy Days. We want to thank the police and other agencies for their work protecting the Jewish community, and British society as a whole, from terrorism. We urge the Jewish community to remain calm and alert, and to report any suspicious activity to police on 999 and then to CST.

Saddened to hear of the death of Netanel Chkroun z”l, killed by a Palestinian terrorist on the eve of Yom Kippur as Mr Chkroun went to ritually immerse himself in a spring before the fast. The violence in the West Bank, on all sides, must be brought to a halt.

🇬🇧 ❤️ 🇨🇦  My heart goes out to the congregation of Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, Ontario, following a shooting incident at the start of Yom Kippur.  I pray for the full and speedy recovery of Jeff Smith, the brave police officer who was injured in the line of duty. It should not be normal that after Jewish festivals we have to reach out to our friends around the World to see where a tragedy might have occurred, but today I send our love and solidarity to @nshack, @CIJAinfo and all in the Canadian Jewish community. Our governments need to get a grip on this sickness.

There has been a toxic and ahistorical narrative pushed, to deny that Jesus was a Jew, and also to appropriate his legacy to one side of a highly complex conflict. As we pursue Israeli-Palestinian peace, the attempt to rewrite and deny Christian and Jewish history serves no good cause.
