Unpopular opinion
1. The videos act as a showcase for those interested in tech, I think they do it cuz a lot of their cool stuff they don’t make global and globally it’s also too fragmented for someone like a Xiaomi to get creators interested to cover it per region
2. Very few people import devices, and those who do either know or do their homework on how to use em - it’s not too complex these days - some trade offs like circle to search of course
3. Apple and Samsung launch globally NOW…. There was a long period of time where iPhones were available in the west ahead of Indian launch and Samsung - available much earlier in Taiwan and other markets - so didn’t happen overnight for them either
I don't understand the strategy Xiaomi is using. They launch the phone in China, create global hype by sending it to a few YouTubers outside China, even though the phone won’t be globally available for another 2-3 months. Why create all that hype when people can’t even buy it in those markets?
By then, people start importing the Chinese version, deal with the usual software and compatibility mess, and many simply lose interest.
Apple, Samsung and Pixel launch globally at the same time and keep the momentum going. Xiaomi really needs to rethink this strategy.
