I had a long call last night with some true friends of the Irish people, including Representative Mike Kelly and others. We discussed the serious possibility of a terrorist attack, potentially carried out by people holding Irish passports whose true identities nobody fully knows. We also talked about the concern that the Irish government is issuing passports to people without fully knowing who they are. We then discussed the dangers posed by radical religious groups in Ireland, including groups such as the Muslim Brotherhood, ISIS, and Al-Qaeda. This issue was highlighted by the Garda Commissioner more than a year ago, when he said that over 3,500 Islamic extremists are now living in Ireland. It is believed that many of them may now hold Irish citizenship, and because of that, it has become a national security risk to the United States. We also spoke about January’s visit to Washington, D.C., and about promoting the new political movement, Reclaim Ireland. My mind truly boggles when Irish-American politicians seem more concerned about the welfare of Irish citizens than the Irish government is. We also discussed Sinn Féin and the concerns some people have about its links to Islamic extremists, and how calls have been made for Sinn Féin to be recognized as a terrorist organization. We also talked about how its Marxist ideology is seen by many as a threat to the people of Ireland and to U.S. national security. Do you eat Atlantic salmon? What do you really know about farmed salmon and what it takes to keep those “premium” cages stocked? Because the truth is far more alarming than the labels on the grocery shelf. These aren’t just fish farms; they’re an entire industrial system with consequences that spread far beyond the pens. First, let’s be honest: in the U.S. and in much of Europe, the Atlantic salmon you buy is overwhelmingly farmed & yes some of the most aggressively marketed are “organic” salmon from Ireland. It sounds comforting, almost wholesome… but “organic” doesn’t mean what most people think it means, especially once you look at what’s happening in the water. Under and around each cage, the impact is brutal. Within a kilometer of the pens, marine life is pushed out or wiped out by pollution, waste, and the disruption of the ecosystem. Disease outbreaks are also common, and when fish are crowded and stressed, antibiotics often become part of the routine, raising serious concerns about human health and antibiotic resistance when people eat contaminated or treated fish. “Farmed salmon are often blamed for the decline of wild salmon because large-scale cage farming can damage wild fish ecosystems and increase pressure on wild populations in multiple ways: escaped farm salmon can interbreed with wild salmon and weaken the genetic strength of wild stocks, diseases and parasites spread from crowded farm pens to nearby wild fish, and the industry’s heavy reliance on fishmeal and fish oil contributes to declining forage fish that wild salmon depend on. When farm salmon first entered the market, the selling point was that they would “save” wild salmon by reducing harvesting pressure and protecting threatened wild stocks, but many critics argue that this promise was overstated or a complete lie, because farming did not remove the need for wild fish inputs and often introduced new risks to wild salmon health and habitat” Then there’s the plastic, another problem that’s well documented. The cages and surrounding operations contribute to ocean pollution, and the damage keeps spreading even after the feeding stops. But one of the most devastating pieces is what happens before the salmon ever reach the cage: the industrial fishing done globally to feed them. Millions of tons of whole fish are caught and ground into fishmeal to feed farmed salmon, and that demand fuels the destruction of marine life at the source. In Irish waters, the industrial fishing pressure has decimated local ecosystems, especially in areas around the coast, where marine life can feel nearly nonexistent. And the worst part? There’s often little restraint: fish are removed before they even have a chance to grow, meaning young fish are killed for feed rather than allowed to mature. Over the years, I’ve highlighted this repeatedly, fish killed far below proper size, fish turned into fishmeal instead of being left to reproduce and rebuild. And the fact that the Irish government has enabled these practices for decades is where real anger should come from. The delivery of this official emergency preparedness notice booklet to every Irish households raises serious concerns regarding the government's transparency, lies, deception and underlying motives.   It suggests that FF FG etc are withholding/lying about critical, serious and dangerous information from the people of Ireland about impending crises, serious risk to life or planning policy measures akin to previous emergency restrictions. I have been asked to post anonymously to help ensure that the Irish Government is held to account for its treatment of whistleblowers. Micheál Martin’s Government—including Helen McEntee and Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan—has been made aware of the whistleblowers named below and their protected disclosures. Yet those who raise serious concerns continue to face silence, obstruction and, in some cases, alleged retaliation. Attempts to silence RTÉ or prevent the press from reporting matters of profound public importance are the actions associated with authoritarian government, not a healthy democracy. Ireland cannot credibly lecture Slovakia or any other European country about whistleblower protection while serious concerns about its own treatment of whistleblowers remain unanswered. This is about the public’s right to hear, read and examine the truth. The removal or suppression of important journalism concerning protected disclosures must not be allowed to stand. RTÉ must be free to report matters of legitimate public interest, and the Irish Government must be required to answer for its record.
