📣Elizabeth Dionne Responds to Vicious Attack Ad🚨
BOSTON - Twelve-year incumbent Treasurer Deb Goldberg has refused to debate me on numerous credible platforms, claiming that the media is biased against her and insisting on fact-checking. This is ironic, as her recent attack ad against me is based on lies and misinformation.
Kate Norton, an associate of Chris Keohan, Deb Goldberg's campaign consultant, just released a vicious attack ad, smearing me personally for my faith. I am proud to be a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (also called "Mormons"). Mitt Romney faced similarly bigoted attacks when he ran for Senator, Governor, and President, like the dated and offensive dog whistle that the LDS Church promotes polygamy. The LDS Church has not practiced polygamy since 1890. Goldberg needs to check her facts.
As the mother of a gay young adult, I support gay rights and marriage equality. I am grateful that my church explicitly supported the 2022 Respect for Marriage Act. My campaign manager is Chair of the Boston Chapter of the Log Cabin Republicans. In June I issued a statement about pride month, directly countering lies Goldberg told about me during her Democratic State Convention speech on May 30, 2026. I am proud to have the endorsement of the national Log Cabin Republicans, issued in direct response to Goldberg's attack.
I am pro-choice. I value all life, but I also support women's need to make personal choices around reproduction. As a member of the California State Senate, my father John L. Harmer cosponsored the legislation that legalized abortion in California prior to Roe v. Wade.
I support the use of stem cells in research. My husband Keith Dionne is a four-decade veteran of the bio-technology industry. His current company, Luxa Biotechnology, is using novel stem-cell therapy to restore sight to victims of macular degeneration, the world's leading cause of adult-onset blindness.
I would never use political office to promote my personal faith agenda. This stands in stark contrast to Goldberg, who has publicly stated that she is a Zionist. (See
youtube.com/watch?v=7H_DGWwr…, at the 65 minute mark.) As such, she instructed a former Lottery employee (willing to go on the record) to pull ads from media outlets that supported the movement to divest from, boycott, or sanction Israel. This violates First Amendment press freedoms and is an abuse of office for which she should be held accountable.
A fundamental tenet of my faith is respect for religious liberty. I call upon Treasurer Goldberg to denounce the ad distributed by her political consultant and to join me in honoring the religious freedoms of all Massachusetts residents, including those who subscribe to no particular faith.
