First time I’ve been on one of the Avanti Hitatchi things beyond Crewe. Really not impressed with the ride quality or the bacon roll.

There are lots of concerning points raised by the RAIB report into the collision on the midland mainline. This section is particularly troubling.

In the current political era of taking the passenger train operators back into government ā€˜ownership’ and unions pushing for in-sourcing I wonder what the thinking was behind the RDG handing out a contract for work previously handled in house?
#Disabled people need to know this: Rail Delivery Group has awarded @nimbusdis a £1.75m contract to decide Disabled Persons Railcard eligibility, reviewing medical/benefit evidence. This goes far beyond an access card. Where is the scrutiny of assessors, appeals and safeguards?

I’ve pretty much stopped posting on Facebook and insta over the last few months. I get why people do it but I’m tired of seeing people pretend their lives are perfection when I know they are so far from it… It isn’t just a little tinkering around the edge, it is full on fake.

Bit of a farce tonight @arrivabuswales with the closure of the A483 south from #posthouse by @HighwaysNWEST @Go_CheshireWest Double decker buses full following Chester pride not able to divert on the country roads due to tree growth.

I do love the idea of the puppy not being accompanied by a passenger and having a day out on the trains by himself.

I was keeping an eye on 1Z18, during my shift today. I should have missed it by 10 minutes on my journey to Manchester (1H92) but in the event it waited for me! …and it is still where I left it over an hour ago with no sign of progress.

So, the neighbours son in law was ā€œrepairingā€ the fence when I spoke to him (he grunted back) this morning. Actually he was fitting ugly plastic anti bird spikes to fence. I’m pleased to say within ten minutes, one had proved they don’t work! We love our garden birds #RSPB

Who owns the train, out of interest?
Introducing the very first Great British Railways train šŸš† You can now spot the new GBR train in real life as the new branding starts rolling out gradually across the rail network. Another step towards a simpler, better railway under GBR which puts passengers and customersĀ first.

I have very mixed feelings about AI. One thing I will say is #AprilFools day has been completely ruined by poor quality AI images which show little creativity. There was a time a real April Fools set up required effort and proper thought.

Public service and merit? Dried up, unelectable ex MPs. I think I prefer hereditary peers with a sense of duty.
This is the biggest reform to our Parliament in a generation. šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ This morning, the 700-year-old system of hereditary membership in the House of Lords was abolished. Membership is now earned through public service and merit, not granted by an inheritance. āœ…

Impressive. It’s just a shame that the rest of the Royal Navy, along with the Royal Air Force and British Army is rather less so. There just isn’t much hardware, there aren’t many people. It’s a bit, well, pathetic.
INTRODUCING: HMS PRINCE OF WALES Britain’s Ā£3bn supercarrier and one of the most powerful warships ever built in the UK is being readied for possible deployment to the Middle East. The 280m flight deck, roughly three football pitches long, acts as a floating airbase capable of launching stealth strike missions anywhere in the world. It holds 700 crew; up to 36 F-35B stealth fighter jets; Chinook, Apache, Merlin & Wildcat helicopters. Our government may be slow on the uptake but do not doubt our power, if and when it’s needed. God bless all our boys and girls if they’re called upon. #FAFO šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§

Excellent effort from the heritage sector.
ā„ļøSnow Hooverā„ļø Scrambled from Kidderminster late last night, @thefiftyfund #Class50 50049 'Defiance' was called into action by @networkrail for route proving around the West Midlands. A great team effort by all involved, including loco owners, operators @HallRail and members at @svrofficialsite Today's notable moves, weather permitting railcamlive.wordpress.com/20… We'd love to see your snow pictures from across our cameras in the comments below, or by tagging @railcamlive in your posts. Stay safe and have a wonderful snow dayšŸ‘‹

So the @PostOffice are now sponsors of drama on @ITV I wonder if that’ll include repeats of #MrBatesvsThePostOffice #MrBates Seems very poor of ITV to accept their money.

Feed is full of this kind of thing. I can honestly say I don’t do this. I season my steak with salt and fry eggs in the beef fat so the yolks provide a ā€œsauceā€. You cannot do any better.

I question the motives of any small group of wealthy people standing in front of a bus with a message painted on the side. I also wonder what they feel makes them ā€œpatrioticā€ other than a desire to pay more tax - in an era when patriotism is often sneered at.

Only a few days after praising the actions of hero train driver at Huntington we are back to not so veiled whipping up of public anger over driver pay. There are many aspects to explain wage rises over the years, particularly when it comes to the loss of terms and conditions…
Great British Railways: Ministers promise big improvements + lower taxpayer subsidy from state ownership. But costs could soar. Unions will demand parity for doing the same job in the same organisation. Train driver after 3 years: Avanti Ā£77k ScotRail Ā£55k independent.co.uk/travel/new…

I love what Jeremy Hosking has done for railway preservation but I am decidedly uneasy about the company he keeps on his private train.
