Among Athletics prospects with at least 300 PAs in 2026, Devin Taylor led the entire org in wRC+. He climbed all the way from Hi-A to Triple-A, banging on the door to an inevitable MLB debut in 2027. Taylor spent a majority of his season in Double-A, where he showed a fantastic feel for limiting chase. He paired that discipline with a profile that got consistent pull-air contact. It allowed him to hit 23 HR, the most in the Athletics system.

It’s not even October and I’m already seeing college freshmen posting that they’re looking for new baseball opportunities. They’ve barely been on campus a month. Let that sink in.

In hitting (baseball), power is the last thing to develop. Amateur scouts used to say that a good statistic that projects future power potential is the amount of Doubles a player hits. As the hitter gets stronger and matures, they will learn how to create loft and maximize distance. Chasing power at a young age is a tough task for developing hitters that don't have the prerequisite physicality and building blocks that go into a power stroke. They are putting the cart before the horse and wondering why progress is stagnant. Learn how to hit line drives on various locations and power will come, naturally.
