Created a foundations of speed presentation for a conference and received great feedback. Took some time but I’ve created this full presentation + 4 pdf resources to help coaches implement. It’s live and my first dive into a product like this. Check it out here: hansenathletics.com/presenta…

Strength and speed training is non-negotiable... And one off-season block isn't enough. Your athlete needs a focused program for a minimum of one full season (3 months) to even begin building a foundation Then a maintenance program at lower volumes throughout the entire year, regardless of sport. Athletes who skip in-season strength and speed training are significantly more likely to get hurt. The data is not even close.

Always nice getting a refresher from @TheNewAthlete every year on how to implement isometrics and load absorption for athletes, we simply have to build a foundation. The @universal_speed summit is truly somewhere you can go and show up Monday with fresh takes and an excitement for your business.

Here’s an easier graphic to follow that I created based on one of my videos. This can give Parents a good insight into what may be correct for their youth Athlete as they progress, not saying this is the only way and circumstances are different, but after 14 years of coaching and seeing sport of evolve, this is my current take

How many of you are doing a baseline assessment before your athletes come into the facility when there’s interest in training with you? One of the most powerful cell processes we implement is giving an Athlete actual insight and where they’re at without charging them.

Most youth kids cannot body weight squat 10 reps with ideal form. Push ups/? It’s even worse. Skipping? Don’t get me started. BASIC physical literacy/proficiency is becoming a rare commodity. Trust me… your 8-12 year old athlete does not need “enter sport” specific program/training.

Here’s my take. Play any and all sports as a youth athlete. Try new things, learn new movements and have FUN. Once you’ve full moved into and through your main growth spurt focus on the 1-2 sports you’ve found the most success in. In an ideal world, you have one sport that’s your main focus + one you do purely for fun throughout high school. From 6th grade through high school have a structured speed and strength program you are consistently going to 1-3x a week. No exceptions. With today’s youth sport climate this roadmap will be challenging, but achievable. Allowing the athlete to develop physically and enjoy sport. Multi sport is good. Getting really skilled in one sport is a must. Not burning out and enjoying the process is a must. Unfortunately being a 3 sport athlete all the way through high school isn’t really the best option anymore, especially if you have hopes of playing sport at the collegiate level. Hopefully this helps 💪🏼 Save and share with athletes, coaches and parents who would benefit from this 📈 Drop your thoughts ⬇️

Add this figure 8 drill into your next training session and try throwing in variations like I’ve shown in this video. Save for later 🤝 Challenge athletes to move in space, follow patterns, and add chaos/challenge through unique parameters. Lastly, make it a race ⚡️ #buildingstrongerhumans #athletedevelopment #speeddevelopment #youthathlete #trainingtips

You want to grow? Back it up with effort. You want to be a better coach? Get uncomfortable. You want to impact human beings? Continue learning, experimenting on yourself, and leading. Pride yourself on providing the best experience and service possible? Better be getting out there and surrounding yourself with the BEST. It’s easy to want these things and even proclaim them from behind a screen 📺 … and too many in our industry do it. The @universal_speed summit is an opportunity to move the needle. I had the opportunity to teach, guide and LEARN from the best coaches in the country this past weekend. People that are doing it for the right reasons, period. Each year I come home with a better understanding, bigger visions of the future, and more outstanding humans to lean on for guidance throughout the year. I’m better for it, HansenAthletics is better for it, and my athletes will be getting an ever better experience. This is just the beginning. Locked and loaded for a big push. LET’S GO.

Example and breakdown of how to perform the single leg RDL. I typically hit: ✅ Execution of movement ✅ 1-2 most common mistakes ✅ Example of a good rep or the goal of the movement The hinge is one of the toughest movements to teach young athletes and progressing it to a single leg is even harder. Mastering the hinge is high up on my priority list for youth athletes. The ability to load into the posterior chain improves performance and longevity. Should I do more movement demos on here?! If they are helpful + you enjoy them let me know 📈

Sleep is the most underrated performance tool available to your athlete. Youth athletes need 9-10 hours per night. Most are getting WAY less. No training program, coach, or supplement fixes a sleep-deprived athlete. Fix this before you fix anything else.

Athletes are already BUSY and typically have limited time to train. Here’s a movement combo that has been producing FAST athletes for the past 10 years. We do something along these lines weekly, and although the movements and implements may change the theme remains the same. Horizontal Force Production: @shredmillspeed , sled sprints, hill sprints Absorb and produce: max effort plyometric typically accompanied with a depth drop variation SPRINT: Move as fast as possible. Timed and ranked each time. #athletedevelopment #speeddevelopment #youthathlete

Master your first step as an athlete In a majority of sports your first step can be the difference between a big play and coming up short. Focus on cues like this ⬆️ and even steal this drill to get a feel for forward lean and projecting yourself in the right direction 📈 Follow for more training and coaching tips like this 🤝

Average players goof around until it's their turn at practice. Better players watch whoever goes before them. Good players notice what the player did right or wrong. Great players LEARN when the coach corrects someone else... so they don't waste a rep making the same mistake. @6am_Practice

This game is amazing. It requires high effort, creativity, and separation, which is all the same qualities we need in sport. It really challenges shin angles, acceleration/deceleration, and the hidden quality is the defender keeping eyes 👀 on the offensive player while moving away from them. Stole this one from @emergeperformance who is consistently putting out great content for athletes 📈

The hips are a primary driver of all things athletic. If they are underdeveloped or overlooked in training it can through off all types of things down the chain. Typically improving hip strength, mobility and capacity will overall result in a more capable and healthy athlete. Here’s an example of a hip exercise we have built into our training program this Fall worked in between sets of our heavy lower body day for the athletes. Goal: highlight imbalances, improve hip capacity and build robust athletes.
