I’m so over all the “AI is going to end humanity” 🥱 As a millennial the world has “ended” like every 5 years. Whatever happens, happens. No point getting worked up over it. God’s plan will play out.

Safeguards come from parents, not social media companies. The push for "Child safety" laws is not actually to protect kids, but to build a digital ID system in order to collect more data on every user, and build a bigger censorship apparatus.
Social media giants pressed to adopt tougher safeguards for children: 'Our kids are under attack' foxbusiness.com/technology/s…

If only we'd gone to war with the Mexican drug cartels instead of Iran, Trump could have saved hundreds of thousands of American lives and made Mexico a livable country. Also, the Strait of Hormuz would still be open.
#BREAKING Law enforcement sources confirm that roughly 500 troops are deploying this week to Texas’ Rio Grande Valley —Being dropped onto islands by chinook helicopters. It comes after suspected cartel members shot at a USCG vessel near Roma over the weekend—The coast guard returned fire. @USCG in a statement saying, “On Sept. 26, Coast Guard Forces Rio Grande personnel encountered gunfire from the Mexican border in the vicinity of Garceno, Texas while conducting joint interdiction operations with federal partners on the Rio Grande. Coast Guard personnel returned fire. No injuries to Coast Guard, or other personnel were reported, and no damage to Coast Guard assets was reported.    The Coast Guard works closely with U.S. Border Patrol, the Department of War and the Texas Military Department to secure the border, disrupt illicit activity and protect the American people. We will continue to leverage a layered, integrated approach to control, secure, and defend the border that strengthens our collective ability to counter illicit activity and safeguard our personnel and the communities we serve.   Threats to Coast Guard members and our partners are taken extremely seriously. The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.” 🎥 via Mateo Garcia

If you ever wonder what government run healthcare would be like, think of the @USPS. An organization that runs at a $9B loss, and has the worst customer service, of front facing employees who have zero pride in their job. I literally just rushed to get there 5 mins before closing and had a door locked on my face for something that would take two mins. And I know this is how healthcare would work because it’s been my experience with the VA too.

AI companies warn of existential risk in order to demand regulation. This is the same play as Mattel, Philip Morris, and taxis. Regulation kills competition. Dominant companies always freeze their market position this way.

Fear sells. Fearmongering about AI and tech really sells. I’m building the opposite. Today, I’m launching The Compute Optimist (@ComputeOptimist). Analysis, reporting, and the receipts on the technologies poised to drive unprecedented human prosperity—if we let them.

Actually, this is the least surprising thing ever. Heads of companies leading an industry demanding regulations or wanting to close door behind them to fence of competition is very common.
I've served in two White Houses and in Congressional leadership, and I can tell you when the last time a CEO or an industry at large asked to be regulated: never. That's what makes Dario's letter so striking — it's an admission that we're driving down a dark, winding road on wet pavement with the headlights off. And where's President Trump? Looks like he nodded off again. It’s time to turn the lights on, put both hands on the wheel, and regain control before it’s too late.
Community note
Industries and CEOs have often asked to be regulated. Examples include 19th century railroads, Allstate in 2009, hedge funds and tech companies. washingtonexaminer.com/opinion/305871… fee.org/articles/we-wa… nationalreview.com/corner/be-wary

Yes and no. George Bush in the moment was a tremendous leader who really did hold the country together at the time. But then you find out he was warned by intel about a month earlier that Bin Laden was capable of a major strike which specifically could involve hijacked airplanes, we can look at his response a little bit differently.
I don't care if this is an unpopular opinion. I'm so grateful that it was George W. Bush, and not Al Gore, who was POTUS on 9/11.
