But “you’re not a good Christian if you don’t vote for him” 🙄 Run from those who say such nonsense. I’m serious. Run from them.

The problem is that the significant overuse and abuse of words like “Zionist,” “decolonize,” “the system,” and “the empire,” and even “Epstein-class,” has diluted their meaning to almost little by now, if anything, (much like the abuse of the word, “Islamist” on the opposite end) and their usage is increasingly perceived as being associated with an agent of chaos, foreign influence, or an unserious person, group, or movement. And even more so when it is only selectively applied (as in the case of really just being anti-west while cheering on other oppressive, corrupt, and imperialist systems.)

Twitter is a hell hole since Musk ruined it as a newsgathering tool, but it still remains an infinitely better newsgathering tool than BlueSky, which at best now is just a pulse checker for left of centre discourse trends.

It's interesting how many pundits on this hellsite are fine w the death penalty, they object only to being forced to actually see it

October 7th was an evil act because it primarily targeted civilians, and it was also massive fuck up for the cause of Palestinians even if you ignore the ethical aspect.

That substantial portions of the European and US Left struggle with the idea that it is possible to condemn criminal actions by the Israeli government while also condemning the vicious brutality of Hamas, Hezbollah and the Iranian regime continues to baffle me.

It's fascinating to me that the tendency towards religious fanaticism does not require, in the least, the presence of an actual religion to manifest.

The problem with Christians trying to avoid being formed by "the culture" is that due to polarization, there are 2+ "cultures" in America. When people say avoid the culture, they mean the one they hate more. They become the strongest partisans for the one they hate less.
I just watched @BishopBarron's first Thomas Aquinas lecture for @petersonacademy. He's one of the best lecturers I've ever heard. He's engaging and coherent, well-armed with stories, an effective synthesizer, and able to shift up and down levels of analysis with ease ("here's the social impact; here's the theological significance; here's the historical context, etc.). I've interviewed him, and we have spent time together, and that was all exceedingly worthwhile. But a full lecture requires a different skill set, and not many people have it. He captured my attention, despite my current difficulty with pain. And I learned a lot. He's also eminently likeable. It's a privilege to have the Bishop's lectures on Peterson Academy.

If we were in 1970s, there’d be like one blurry picture of him and he’d go down in history as a legendary cryptid. Like chupacabra or Bigfoot. We’d be telling kids that if they don’t behave, Jimothy will come and steal their toenails
