Yes, they will, unironically.
We've had this discourse just a few months ago. Their concept of "poverty" is not "those people don't have basic necessities like electricity or clean water", but "those people don't have what Elon Musk has."
You're not poor just because someone else is wealthier than you, but that's what they think poverty is. To them, "poverty" means inequality, and the fact that virtually no one in the industrialized world is starving today doesn't enter into the equation for them. This is because they view wealth as zero-sum. They think the only way to get rich is to make someone else poor. This obviously isn't true, but they think that because they believe wealth isn't created, but that all wealth just somehow magically already existed and the rich people just somehow took disproportionately large shares of it, leaving less for everyone else, and they disregard the fact that even the poorest Americans today are living more comfortably than any king did a thousand years ago.
This is also why you see so many posts arguing something along the lines of "we wouldn't have to work if it weren't for capitalism." They think that if capitalism didn't exist, then they could just spend all day doing whatever they want, and things like food, clean water, housing, medicine, clothes, and everything else modern people need would just somehow exist without anyone being incentivized to make them exist, and they would just be entitled to however much of it they wanted. Please ignore the fact that people had to work to survive long before capitalism existed.
That sounds like a strawman, but it isn't. They really believe that either no one would be required to make or maintain vital infrastructure, or someone else would just do it without pay just because they feel like it. They think an entire civilization of millions of people would just "pitch in" to make it all work out of the goodness of their hearts. And keep in mind, these are the same people who think you deserve to die for a difference of opinion who believe this.
They live such sheltered lives that the notion of all the things that make their modern lives so comfortable just disappearing is as impossible for them to imagine as it is impossible for them to rotate an apple in their minds, and they have no idea what it actually takes to make the modern world possible. They think the entire world could eat if everyone just ate from a tiny backyard garden that they watered once a day. They think the sewer lines would maintain themselves.
And that's why they have such a stupid definition of poverty. They have no idea what povertyβ real povertyβ even looks like.
Socialists will tell you this isnβt poverty
