Irony is that this is weaponization of open weights models; the very thing that could lead to disaster.
The Trump administration appears to have changed its AI chatbot so that it no longer debunks Trump lies. Yesterday: It said Biden won the 2020 election and there's no indication of widespread fraud. Today: Says it can't answer such questions.

"Do not bet against the airplane. The skeptics who say AI can't conjecture, can't theorize, and can't explain are describing last spring's models. Within months, they will be describing nobody. The evidence is already on the table, and those with eyes can see it."
Reading all those recent beautiful essays by Terry Tao, Kevin Buzzard and @wtgowers, I could not resist, but write up my deeply personal perspective on how I perceive and see things: docs.google.com/document/d/e…

Tennis playing robot from the paper LATENT by @Zhikai273 et al - an example of the awesome whole body control now possible with humanoid robots, recent winner of IROS 2026 best paper on entertainment robotics.
What do robot sports teach us? We have seen incredibly cool progress in robot soccer and tennis recently, but just as interesting is what we definitely do not see. Robots are increasingly capable of incredibly fluid, reactive whole body control - but their ability to perceive the world while doing so is incredibly limited. And so we see shortcuts being taken, external trackers used, to avoid the limitations of onboard sensing and sensorimotor control while in challenging environments. The future of robotics will require closing this gap. Some thoughts -> itcanthink.substack.com/p/wh…

They want a permanent state of no accountability moving forward, and relitigating settled historical fact is the permission structure to ignore Trump’s multi-billion dollar presidency. They want to frame all recourse, past, present, and future as partisan vendettas.
GOP Rep. Moore on Watergate: "Richard Nixon was absolutely couped out of office and was framed. All of this was fake."

There were a lot of things that only worked because there's a limit to the rate at which humans can operate. We're about to find out what all of them are, as they break.

'More striking is how fast AI took the lead. Just eighteen months ago, the best AI models fell short of the average accountant’s ~37% score. Today, models ace those same tasks.' 'These results are provocative. So much so that we considered not publishing them for fear of misinterpretation. But we think transparency about the findings matters as people and institutions prepare for rapidly advancing AI.'
“We find that on medium-length, well-defined accounting tasks, frontier AI models are now faster and more accurate than junior accountants, even the best one in our study.” Eighteen months ago they scored well below human accountants Good discussion here: mercor.com/blog/human-baseli…

Former CIA analyst Elissa Slotkin knows what autocrats do to gain power. Heed her words.
.@SenatorSlotkin (D-MI) warns of President Trump using a national emergency "ruse" to gain American trust: "If you hear in the next 34 days that there is a new security threat... that somehow requires federal law enforcement or the military... an alarm bell should go off."

my single favorite chart about AI in the last few years. "what are we actually trying to achieve" in a sense.
When I posted this in March, many people pointed out that it did not include the labor impact of robotic systems combined with language models. Anthropic updated the chart in a report released this morning.
