From 1,457 to 1,850 Credit Unions: The Next Leap for Metallicus
The League of Credit Unions & Affiliates signed a letter of intent to merge with
@MDDCCUA , its second major expansion in two years.
If approved, it would take effect on January 1, 2027, creating a six-state organization (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, Virginia, and DC) with 458 credit unions, $528.4 billion in assets, and 36.2 million members.
I connect this news with Metallicus' growth: since MD|DC is a confirmed partner with 65 credit unions, I hypothesize that the shared governance goal of this merger will likely push the League's remaining 393 Credit Unions into the same ecosystem, bringing the total number of credit unions working with Metallicus from 1,457 to nearly 1,850.
I also explain why I believe this merger has a good chance of going through — starting with incoming CEO John Bratsakis, who has served as president CEO of the MD|DC Credit Union Association for nearly 15 years, was named CEO of The League in June.
