In early August, 18 people, including 10 young Kurds from Raperin, reportedly set out from Libya in an attempt to reach Italy. Their families have been waiting for information about their loved ones, yet their whereabouts and fate remain unknown. The discovery of bodies in the Mediterranean has heightened the families’ concerns. There are also reports that some of the young people may be detained in Libya. These reports must be urgently clarified, and the families must be provided with accurate and timely information. The absence of safe and regular pathways for migration continues to expose people to extremely dangerous journeys. Human lives must not be placed at risk as a consequence of restrictive border and migration policies. We call on the Italian and Libyan authorities to urgently clarify the whereabouts and fate of these 10 young people, establish the facts, and ensure that the families receive the information and support to which they are entitled. The families have a fundamental right to know what happened to their loved ones. The truth must be established, and justice must be ensured. @ItalyMFA_int @Viminale @ItalyinLibya @UNSMILibya @UNHCRLibya @UNmigration @EUinLibya

Today, the leaders of Sinn Féin, the SNP and Plaid Cymru came together to sign a joint agreement to work towards independence. For the first time in history, three nationalist and pro-independence First Ministers now hold office. This is a historic moment and testament to the enormous change, hope and opportunity of the times we are living through.

The meeting also underscored that the rollback of women's rights is inseparable from the broader crisis of democracy. Across regions, participants shared how feminist movements continue to safeguard civic space, strengthen democratic participation, and respond to growing political pressure. Looking ahead, the second half of 2026 will focus on shaping a collective response through regional coordination, exchanges of policies and practices, and continued collaboration as the Working Group prepares for the Progressive Alliance Gender Equality Conference in Bangkok under the theme "Building Power and Defending Progress Together." @PSSuisse @INCIndia @SPOE_at @DEM_Diplomacy @DEMGenelMerkezi @AkbayanParty @EnasAlatoom @NDPAnne @NDP @PDKIenglish

At the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), we questioned why the implementation of the ECtHR’s “right to hope” judgment concerning Mr. Abdullah Öcalan has not been consistently supervised, why the case has not been placed on the Committee of Ministers’ agenda this year despite the June 2026 deadline given to Türkiye, and why the available enforcement mechanisms are not being used while the violations continue.

Alongside our work in the General Assembly and committee meetings during the PACE summer session, the DEM Party delegation, led by @berdan_ozturk and together with our party’s Strasbourg representative Faik Yağızay, held a series of bilateral meetings. We met with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Alain Berset; the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Petra Bayr; and the leaders of the political groups in PACE, including Liberal Group President Iulian Bulai and Socialist Group President Frank Schwabe. We discussed recent developments in Türkiye, the requirements of the ongoing process towards a democratic society and peace, and how they could support this process. We also exchanged views on the intense pressure on the opposition, the economic crisis exacerbated by the resulting uncertainty, and the broader democratic backsliding, and answered their questions. AKPM yaz oturumunda Genel Kurul ve komite çalışmalarımızın yanı sıra, @berdan_ozturk başkanlığında, partimizin Strasbourg’daki temsilcisi Faik Yağızay ile birlikte DEM Parti heyeti olarak ikili görüşmeler gerçekleştirdik. Avrupa Konseyi Genel Sekreteri Alain Berset, Avrupa Konseyi Parlamenter Meclisi Başkanı Petra Bayr, AKPM’deki siyasi grupların başkanlarından Liberal Grup Başkanı Iulian Bulai ve Sosyalist Grup Başkanı Frank Schwabe ile görüştük. Türkiye’deki son dönem gelişmelerini, içinde bulunduğumuz demokratik toplum ve barış sürecinin gereklerini, bu sürece nasıl destek olabileceklerini, muhalefet üzerindeki yoğun baskıyı, bunun yarattığı belirsizliklerin derinleştirdiği ekonomik krizi ve demokratik gerilemeyi değerlendirdik, sorularını yanıtladık. @DEMPartiEng @DEMGenelMerkezi
