In fall of 2008 I was a student at Texas Tech. If you recall, until recently, that was our best football season in decades. Harrell. Crabtree. The Catch. An amazing experience. Took down number 1 University of Texas.
A week later, Tech took down (I think #9) Oklahoma State.
Soon after, Tech went to Norman and…well, we were embarrassed. We were so close. And one game broke us. I hated it. Was up in arms all night, going through the five stages of grief. My team pooped the bed. Not good. Shut down the party. It was difficult to sleep that evening.
Then, a little perspective hit. We had a historic season that was not over. And I was letting a bunch of 18-23 year olds dictate my mood based on what they did in another state. No one died. Bummed? Sure. But this is not defcon 5, and getting so worked up over this would not bring any balance to the equation. As soon as I realized this, I’ve slept comfortably. (And as a tech fan this philosophy got me through 2015-2023.)
@dctf does it best. They are historic. They are better than espn in every way. They bring us Texas sports every single day. Don’t tell my boss, but I enjoy watching
@Tepper every week during work.
@Matt_Stepp817 is the go-to for breaking sport news in my opinion. One mess up on their app rollout does not take that away. Not only that, but unlike most companies they are listening to their audience and course correcting. Good for them. If you can, subscribe to their services because what they do is powerful. If you can’t, don’t, and enjoy the free version.
They are not paying us or asking us to say this. As we travel the state we simply notice what they offer and it’s real and it’s a beautiful way to honor the competitive youth in our state. Good on Dave Campbells.
