We congratulate our founding member, Belgium, and Rwanda for the re-establishment of their diplomatic relations. Team Europe in Rwanda celebrates the return of Belgium into our group. Stronger together @prevotmaxime @onduhungirehe #HamweNatwe
🇧🇪🇷🇼 (EN/FR/NL) Pleased to announce today the resumption of diplomatic relations between Belgium and Rwanda. In a world marked by growing tensions, this is an important signal here in New York, the UN's host city, which embodies multilateralism and dialogue beyond our differences. This is the culmination of a process of frank discussions with my counterpart and the result of a shared, respectful effort. I am convinced that we can set a positive agenda, mutually beneficial to our citizens, and grounded in the richness of our interpersonal relations. We agreed on the importance of systematic dialogue, including on the points of disagreement that remain, such as the conflict in eastern DRC. Restoring diplomatic relations between states does not mean abandoning our position, but having structured channels for dialogue, and I will continue to defend the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the DRC. We want to put our expertise in the region to work in support of mediation efforts as best we can, and we will continue to urge strict respect for the commitments made by all parties within the Doha and Washington processes. @BelgiumMFA

#Happeningnow: Nearly four years after Rwanda adopted the Criminal Justice Policy and the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Policy, we have convened a two-day Policy Dialogue bringing together government institutions, the judiciary, development partners, civil society, academia, and other justice sector actors to reflect on how these landmark reforms are being translated into practice. The Dialogue provides a platform to assess implementation progress, identify existing bottlenecks, share emerging good practices, and agree on practical actions to strengthen a more coordinated, restorative, and people-centered justice system. In his remarks, our ED mentioned that policy implementation is a journey rather than an event. And that Justice is a shared responsibility, with each of us having a role to play. He emphasized that today's dialogue provides an opportunity to move beyond policy commitments and reflect on the progress made over the past four years, the impact achieved, the gaps and obstacles that remain, the lessons learned, and the practical actions that should be prioritized in the year ahead. Peter Eilschow Olesen, Deputy Head of Mission at @DKinRwanda, reaffirmed Denmark's commitment to standing alongside Rwanda in implementing justice sector policies and strengthening access to justice. He thanked LAF for convening this dialogue, noting that it provides an important opportunity to review progress, identify solutions for meaningful change, and strengthen partnerships. In his remarks, the Deputy Chief Justice at @RwandaJudiciary said that implementation has not been uniform, with some policy actions advancing faster than others. He called for reflection on progress made, identification of implementation bottlenecks, and stronger collaboration across the justice sector. He highlighted that since 2022, 36,127 cases have been concluded through plea bargaining, while 1,858 cases have been amicably resolved through victim-offender mediation, contributing to reduced case backlogs and strengthened reconciliation.

Pleased to partner with @RefugeesRwanda in promoting stronger conditions for refugees and their host communities in Rwanda. Moving vulnerable people out of humanitarian dependency and into self-reliance is an essential aim.
In Mushishito Marshland @Nyamagabe, 1,570 farmers, including 500 refugees, are celebrating a successful bean harvest. This means more food for their families, a source of income & progress towards self-reliance, thanks to🇩🇰Denmark's support.

Rwanda is among the most progressive and inclusive countries in its policy on refugees. Useful discussion with Minister Murasira in which we touched base on ongoing collaboration on refugee and migration-related matters 🇩🇰🇷🇼
Today, Minister Maj. Gen. (Rtd) Albert Murasira received H.E. Casper Stenger Jensen, Ambassador of Denmark to Rwanda. Their discussions underscored the partnership between Rwanda and Denmark in advancing refugee protection and promoting durable solutions. Key areas of collaboration include the refugee graduation programme in Mahama and Kiziba camps, as well as socio-economic inclusion initiatives through climate-resilient agriculture projects that foster shared livelihoods for refugees and host communities. The meeting also reviewed Denmark’s support to the Emergency Transit Mechanism (ETM) and the ongoing upgrade of Nyarubuye Health Center into a medicalized facility to enhance access to quality healthcare services. They commended the positive impact of these interventions and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening this valuable partnership for the benefit of refugees and host communities alike. 🇷🇼🇩🇰
