There’s something incredibly poetic about communists on X getting upset with
@Metallica
On September 28, 1991, Metallica performed in Moscow in front of hundreds of thousands of people. The Soviet Union was in its final months, the communist system was collapsing, and an entire generation was finally getting a taste of the freedom that had been denied to them for decades.
For decades, Western rock music was censored and often suppressed by Soviet authorities. And suddenly, there were hundreds of thousands of young Russians gathered in Moscow, listening to Metallica perform Enter Sandman and Master of Puppets.
Just imagine being a young person in that crowd. Growing up in a country where the government tried to dictate what you could read, what you could listen to, what you could say, and even what you were allowed to think. And then, almost overnight, the world begins to open up.
If you've never seen the footage of that concert, I strongly recommend watching it. It's absolutely incredible. Look at the crowd!
