These remarks by Mr. Murphy are vile. This is bigotry, plain and simple, and it must be resoundingly condemned. This kind of hate is cancerous. Left unchallenged, it spreads, and I will not let that to happen. This is more than an attack on Muslim and Arab Americans. It is an attack on what America stands for: our shared values, our common humanity, and the fundamental promise that every one of us belongs. This is the politics of weakness. It seeks to divide us in the hope that fear and resentment will advance personal ambition. An attack on the civil rights and human dignity of one community threatens the rights and dignity of us all. I stand with my Muslim and Arab neighbors, because I revere their dignity and their rights, and because this is about something larger than any one community. I will not let Mr. Murphy, or anyone else, divide us. That is not who we are as New Jerseyans, and it is not who we are as Americans.
